In the 1970s, Dutch cities like Amsterdam were full of traffic and air pollution.
Now they are models of sustainable urban planning.
Here's the story of how the Netherlands started building their cities for humans, not cars.

The automobile is a magnificent tool and a vast improvement over the urban horse esp from the POV of the horse. The problem is transportation policy which set automobile storage and throughput above housing and safety for poeple. Cars are good servants. They are terrible masters.

With governments cracking down on & criminalising #climate protests aimed at disrupting motorways, we can soon expect to see traffic, ahem, flowing freely

The city of the future isn't about taller buildings, wider highways, & monumental architectural statements.
The city of the future is more like the city of the past. It's highly walkable, interconnected, community focused, & sustainable. Most importantly, it puts people first!

"As reported by The Globe and Mail, residents spent a total of $181 million at curbside patios within 13 weeks of summer in 2021. If those spaces had remained dedicated to parking, only $3.7 million would have been reaped during the same time period."

As a Dutchman coming to live in Toronto, I was told you can only cycle half the year. Struck me as odd since I also heard that Canadians wear shorts until it is -10ºC.
Now I know. It is not so much the weather. It is that they mostly only clean roads for cars, not for bicycles.

The countries with high fertility rates – those with high numbers of births per woman – have very low CO₂ emissions per person.
Population could increase by billions in these countries and changes in global emissions would be small.
It should not be controversial to say a population of 8 billion will have a grave impact on the climate | John Vidal theguardian.com/commentisfre…

I’m not going to be posting about my bike commute much this winter because… I don’t have one!
Also, by nature of an emergency c-section after an ultrasound, I did, in fact, end up biking to give birth. Which, according to @CanadaRobin, means I win at bike twitter.

one weird thing about interdisciplinary climate change research is that the social scientists all have to gain a rudimentary understanding of the physical stuff but the climate people basically just repeat economists' lies about people and society.
