"In response to the policy guidance of H.E. President @KagutaMuseveni and the commitments in the @NRMOnline manifesto, the leadership of MAAIF and its partners adopted a hybrid strategy in planning for the agricultural sector. The strategy caters for both smallholder and large-scale commercial farmers. The former are advised to practice intensive farming of particular high-value enterprises like Coffee, Fruits and vegetables, Dairy under zero-grazing, Poultry, Piggery, Fish farming, Apiary and others suitable for small plots, while the latter can do both intensive and extensive farming of all enterprises of their choice, enabled by the advantage of their large land-holdings," - Hon. @FrankTumwebazek #AgricultureUG #MAAIFinParliament

Construction of new agricultural research management facility underway: Earlier today, Hon. Frank Tumwebaze presided over the ground-breaking event for the construction of a research and management facility for the National Agricultural Research Organization (@narouganda ) at the Coffee Research Institute (@NaCORIUganda ) in Kikyusa Mukono. The Minister also officially handed the site to the contractor, the National Enterprise Corporation (@NECUPDF). "As a government, we are deliberately supporting our research system with all the requisite infrastructure, both physical and technological to enable them work and innovate solutions for our livelihood challenges," - Tumwebaze said. As highlighted by Hon. Tumwebaze, agricultural research remains a priority for government, especially in efforts aimed at boosting production and productivity. "The quality and quantity of any of our farm yields can only be as good as the seed (plant and livestock) we produce and plant. Bad seed/breed gives u poor or failed productivity, while good resilient seed/breed increases productivity and sustains the farming ecosystem. This is how research becomes critical," Tumwebaze said. The Minister applauded H.E President Kaguta Museveni for insisting and instructively guiding over the years on the need to prioritize scientific research and innovation in government planning and budgeting and challenged agricultural scientists to always prioritize research that is applicable and impactful. " We need more research that will directly impact and change the livelihoods of the people and create farming resilience in the face of climate change and harsh weather," Tumwebaze noted. #AgricultureUG

Today, I commissioned 280 Officer Cadets at Kabamba. I congratulate the officers and thank their families and the UPDF leadership for guiding them through their training. A strong defence requires a strong economy, well trained soldiers, investment in science and technology, and cooperation with our brother African countries. The UPDF must also protect wealth creators and help combat crime and sabotage in our communities.
