Sunday, August 23, 2026, 8:46 AM: A massive 594 - 597 DM high-pressure axis will overtake all of Central and Southern California, Southern Nevada, Arizona, and Western Texas over the next 24 to 98 hours. The persistent heat range of above-average temperatures by 10- 25 degrees is expected to persist, intensifying and making this the hottest week of summer 2026 so far.
Temperatures ranging between 105° and 113° are anticipated in all valleys of Southern and Central California, with isolated areas such as Santa Clarita, Woodland Hills, California and this includes Moreno Valley, Palm Springs, Coachella, Imperial Valley, and Las Vegas reaching up to 114°. Phoenix, Arizona is projected to experience temperatures exceeding 112° to 119°.
High humidity levels of 45% to 55% will exacerbate these dangerous heat wave conditions for the entire upcoming week. Coastal regions are also expected to experience temperatures in the mid-90s, with some isolated areas near Malibu possibly reaching 103°.
This summer is shaping up to be the hottest since 2006. Widespread excessive heat warnings will remain in effect until at least next Sunday. It is advised to stay hydrated and drink plenty of water as the worst heat wave impacts the southwestern US. #CAwx #heatwave
