"Pennsylvania Heritage" magazine has captured the fascinating stories of its most celebrated residents. PHMC is sharing articles detailing the lives of these captivating people. Born Feb. 25, 1918, in Harrisburg, Pa., "Barney" Ewell would become one of the world's leading sprinters and long jumpers in the late 1930s and 40s. Cancellation of the #Olympics during #WWII prevented Ewell from competing in his prime. But, Ewell didn't give up. ➡ bit.ly/41e1MlE #BlackHistoryMonth

From Santa Claus to Krampus, #Christmas is steeped in legends. Pennsylvanians know of the Belsnickel, a legendary figure who serves as both the bearer of gifts and the agent of punishment in the Pennsylvania Dutch Christmas tradition. ➡ bit.ly/41vREXm @LandisValley

Big day in the House Archives as we welcomed a delegation from @parliament_gh! They visited our office to gain insight into the workings of a legislative archive/museum as Ghana hopes to open their own Parliament Museum! It was a true pleasure to meet and talk with them!

This #artifactwednesday we are sharing one of our oldest items in our collection. This 1855 lithograph of the House floor is certainly one of a kind! We love that we can see where Members sat in the original Hills Capitol!

Yesterday, August 27, 1859, is the anniversary of the Drake oil well in Titusville, Pennsylvania. It was the first successful well in the nation. When our Capitol was built in 1906, our oil industry was the third leading industry in Pennsylvania, only second to Steel and Coal.
