I used to be embarrassed to tell this story, but now idgaf. While I was at Eglin me and my buddy took my canoe out into the bay. When we got out there, weather was nice cmwaves were low and we started fishing. FFW *maybe* 45 minutes. Wind picks up and all of a sudden anything I cast in front of us is flying back behind me. From the bottom of the bay floor. I turn around and we're easily 500+ meters from the shore. Not too far but a little farther than I want to be in a plastic canoe. So I start trying to row us back, at the same time clouds are rolling in and the waves are picking up. Now we're both rowing trying to get back to Bens lake. All of a sudden, I feel my sock get wet. I look down and I'm sitting in water. Fuck. I start bailing water, buddy is rowing. We switch up a few times until we're both gassed. We fought that current and the waves for what felt like over an hour. It probably was but might not have been. I'll never know. I call 911 to get the coasties out to grab us as I can't see another vessel around us to help. 911 operator: "where is your location" I fill her in, 911 op: I'll send the ground units Me: Are they gonna throw me a fuckin rope? You got babe ruth on the PD? I need another boat. 911: No theyre gonna spot you. Me to my bro: at least if we drown the water aint bad 911: ...... Anyway CG picked us up. The driver asked if we were AF guys. Said no we're Army. He asked us "are we a real branch now?" Funniest shit I've heard in so long. Shout out to the coasties.
