.@JeanAtPacific and I joined 17 @UOPacific students for a quintessentially Pacific experiential learning trip this weekend: Exploring @YosemiteNPS with leading scholars. Mike Wurtz, one of the world’s foremost experts on #johnmuir who oversees our Muir archives, explained the naturalist’s role in preserving #yosemite and founding the @SierraClub while Dr. Lydia Fox, a superb geology professor, explained how the magnificent granite rocks were formed millions of years ago. A special treat: Robert Hanna, Muir’s great-great-grandson, and Ted Roosevelt IV, Teddy Rooosevelt’s great-grandson, recreated the historic 3-day camping trip their ancestors took in 1903, which helped fuel the President’s work to expand the national park system. Our students are so fortunate to have these kinds of experiences – less than 3 hours from campus – and work with such fantastic faculty. #PacificProud
