Yesterday was tough, and I'm saying this as someone who's watched the Packers trot out Tom Birney, Eddie Garcia, Max Zendejas, Anders Carlson, and Brayden Narveson.
NFL kickers are 167-for-170 from inside 37 yards this season. Trey Smack had 2 of the 3 misses Sunday. The last kicker to miss two field goals 35 yards or shorter in a game was Mike Nugent in 2019. The Patriots cut Nugent afterward. nbcsports.com/nfl/profootbal…
Travis Glover is on the injury report. The coaches may have no choice but to start Kevin Zeitler this week.
I give Devonte Wyatt credit for toughening it out yesterday, but he continues to be a non-factor. The $19M-a-year defensive tackle has 5 pressures in 141 pass rush snaps. Meanwhile, 340-pound nose tackle Jonathan Ford had 3 pressures in 48 pass rush snaps before going on IR.
I'm not blaming Melton. He's an excellent special teams player who should always be a team's last option at wide receiver. I blame the coaches who insist on playing him on offense.
This is an upgrade in talent. It also gives the Packers a viable backup at right tackle.

WEEK 8: Morgan, Lake Tomlinson or Aaron Banks, John Williams, Travis Glover or Kevin Zeitler, and Anthony Belton.
That's quite a turnover in 46 days.
The Packers have Kevin Zeitler and Mekhi Becton on the roster, yet they still start Travis Glover at right guard. I don't get it.

Adrian Peterson rushed for 296 yards in one game. The Packers have rushed for 419 yards in seven games.
I don't know what the cap implications would be, but All-Pro guard Quenton Nelson would help the Packers more than any player available at next month's trade deadline.

The next time the Packers have 1st & goal from inside the 10, I want to see three passes. Running the ball these days is just giving away a play. I like Jordan Love's chances of finding someone open in the end zone if given three attempts.
Brandon McManus missed 6 FGs and 1 PAT in 17 regular-season games last season. Trey Smack has missed 5 FGs and 2 PATs in 7 games this season.
And no, I don't question releasing McManus. The Packers had to move on from a kicker who couldn't get the job done in consecutive postseasons.
It's now come to the point that whenever the Packers get a sack or an interception, I just assume a ticky-tack penalty will be called to negate the play.
Emanuel Wilson rushed for 100 yards last night in Seattle's win over Kansas City. The former Packer is nothing special, but he's considerably better than MarShawn Lloyd, Pierre Strong Jr., Kaleb Johnson, and Chris Brooks.
Thursday night will feature a mid-off between left tackles. Rasheed "26 pressures and 3 sacks" Walker returns to Lambeau to face off against Jordan "22 pressures and 5 sacks" Morgan.
The Packers' offensive line averages about 325 pounds. That's big, even by NFL standards. There's no reason why they should have so much trouble creating space for the running backs.
Travis Glover has done a commendable job at right guard, but unless Kevin Zeitler aged 20 years between last December and today, it's hard to believe he can't play the position better.
