ALT Regulation of SpoT activity. SpoT activity can be regulated by stimulation of its synthesis or hydrolysis activities. (p)ppGpp synthesis (green) is stimulated by: ACP (acyl carrier protein) during fatty acid deficiency; YtfK during phosphate and fatty acid starvation; and YmgB (conditions unknown). Activation of (p)ppGpp hydrolysis (red) is a consequence of SpoT’s interaction with ObgE (CgtA) during normal growth conditions and Rsd (Regulator of Sigma D) during carbon source downshift.
