Two Laws Of Startup Physics
Fifteen years into my venture capital career, I’ve come to believe there are two undeniable laws of startup physics:

A friendly warning for founders - we've invested in lots of co's that never made it past seed, no exit. Founder gets $0. Most have "wound down" company w/ honor, took great care. The few that didn't - references haunt them, and I can't think of any who've had an easy next act.

JetBrains received $0 of funding in 19 years of its existence, except for very small initial seed capital, and grew to 1000+ person company. We've been profitable every year. People stay here much longer than typical 1.5-2 years. VC is not the only model. xitter.cf/justinmduke/status/115…

I’ve asked multiple entrepreneurs this week how long it took to find product/market fit.
Answer: two years.
I followed up asking how long it took to get to $1M ARR from scratch.
Answer: four years.
Settle in, it’s a long journey.

In my limited experience over the last 15 years no startup that cut burn has later said “Oh, we should not have cut burn”.
It’s always been “Wish we had cut deeper, and earlier”.
It is something unfortunately every CEO has to learn by doing.
