I’ve spent 30 years in IT operations and infrastructure.
Here’s what that really means:
• I’ve seen systems fail at the worst possible time
• Led teams through outages, pressure, projects, change, as well as growth and development
• Fixed more ‘this should’ve been caught earlier’ issues than I can count
Also:
• First and foremost, I'm a follower of Christ
• Next, I'm a husband, dad, grandad
• I'm also a soldier, Search & Rescue Instructor, and S-3 NCOIC for 3BN, 1BDE, Texas State Guard
On this account, I’ll share:
• Real-world leadership lessons, both military and civilian related
• Life experiences during my current job search as the result of a RIF
• The occasional meme—because some things deserve it
Currently exploring VP-level opportunities.
If you’re in this world, welcome. I look forward to learning from and sharing with, each one of you.
I have to brag on one of my kids, and I’ll try to do this justice and not accidentally misrepresent anything, so the bragging will be very high level.
Last Wed, Oct 21, my middle son, Cameron, was out and about in Whitesboro, TX, and heard a loud crash and explosion (I think) and saw that an 18-wheeler and an RV had been involved in a wreck and the RV was on fire.
He sprang into action, helping 2 women away from the scene. He told me that as he was getting them to safety, he heard loud screaming coming from the RV, and without hesitation, he ran into the RV, as it was becoming involved, and pulled a man out and to safety. The man was later transported to Parkland’s burn unit, I have no update on his status.
Cameron did sustain some superficial burns to his forearms, and is doing just fine.
As he and I were chatting about his experience, he told me that he realizes what he did wasn’t the smartest or safest thing to do, but he trusted God was going to grant him the strength, courage, and insight to get that man out.
As Cameron recounted the events that unfolded, I was both terrified and proud of my boy. He stepped up, without regard for his own safety, and made a difference in the lives of 3 people and all those who are in their lives.
He’s currently enrolled in the Fire Science program at #northcentraltexascollege, and I think this experience will help propel him on to great things in the future!

For those who were or are still in the military, you’ll understand this.
I am scheduled to go before the promotion board tomorrow for my promotion to 1SG.
I’ve been in a 1SG billet for several years now, as the 1SG for B/3/1, HHC 1BDE and now HHC for 3BN 1BDE, so I know the job and everything included. But, I don’t test well and I see a promotion board as a test. 😳
For those in the military, memorizing and reciting certain things is a normal occurrence. There are some, like me, that have challenges doing this, even though we can speak to the meaning and importance of said thing.
The NCO Creed has always been a challenge for me, but I think I found the trick (finally). 😂😂😂

I just spent a great morning with Tyler, the GM at @friscofarms, learning more about how @arcisgolf does business.
As a leader in the company, I believe it is very important to get out and see how our business is run, how IT enables current operations and how we can aid in the growth and development of our future.
This might be one of the quietest Novembers in history, it’s gonna be nice.
BREAKING 🅱️ — MILLIONS of leftist women are preparing to go on strike against men in November..
These women will be skipping work, boycotting companies run by men, and will stop talking and being around men for the entire month — they’re re calling it “No Men November”..
So no paycheck, no groceries from male-owned stores, and no help from the men who fix their cars, run their power, and build their houses. 90% of the country's construction workers are men. I’m sure this strike won’t last long.
Not working for a month to prove leftist women are independent is a BOLD strategy.
I made the mistake of trying to figure out the economics of a recent week stay at @ChoctawCasinos Casino at the @ChoctawDurant location.
My Wife and I recently had a fun filled 5 night stay in a king bed room in the Grand tower, we each had some free play money, food credits, additional comps we used for dinner at Salt & Stone and Butterfield's Buffet (prime rib night), and we each got 2 tickets to Travit Tritt and Wynona Judd concerts, plus we each got a $25 credit at the Choctaw Travel Plaza for gas and snacks for the trip home.
All in, the comps came in around $2,200. But, what did it take for us to get all of those "freebees"? We had a blast with her relaxing all day while I worked from the hotel room, then wandering the floor in The Grand and The District testing out new slots and playing some favorites, bingo at The League on Wed night (50's night), plus the food.
I'm almost afraid to look at our win/loss statements to see not only what we paid in but what we've played with, to get to amber status and get those comps. I do, however, know what cash we brought with us to play with and how much we left the building with, so... 🤣
For the record, for any comments that come my way about wasting money, we only gamble with money we set aside in a "Choctaw fund" envelope, and we only play with money we're comfortable loosing as an entertainment expense. The cars and the mortgage are all safe. 😉
I’m introducing my 17 year old son to Office Space today. Perfect opportunity, as he’s evaluating what he thinks he may want to do after graduation. 😂
What was your most dreaded preparatory command when you were in the military? Mine? "Half Right Face..."
Since I was such a knucklehead in basic, I heard that friggin command way more than I care to count. 🤣
I had a pretty interesting thing happen to me last week, and it is certainly a first for me.
I was interviewing a candidate for a position I'm trying to fill and as the call progressed and I asked if he had any questions for me. I was fully expecting the normal, run of the mill, questions about company culture, next steps, etc., but I was hit with a quote from one of my LinkedIn posts, about AI governance, and he asked what my thought process was when I was writing that post. 😯
I've written a few good posts here and there, and have had some good feedback and follow up conversations, but I've never had one given back to me as a lead into discussing the mindset and methodology of writing the post.
That was a solid card this candidate played, not only did it show that he did his research, but it showed he had the technical and operational experience to have a deeper conversation about the topic. He came prepared to play chess, not checkers.

You know who doesn’t get pepper sprayed in the face? Protestors who don’t obstruct federal officers.

Need Social Security with a $100K pension? They don’t.
But that’s not the actual issue at hand.
The actual issue is, after SS was enacted, they (we) were forced to pay into it, with the “guarantee” money would be available for them (us) upon retirement. Since they (we) are forced to pay, they (we) should get what little money is available paid out at retirement.
Period, end of story.
Hey @BernieSanders, how about you leave off bashing job creators and do something useful to benefit the Americans you swore an oath to.

The companies represented in this photo, not counting President Trump, have created an estimated 1.456M jobs in the US. With an estimated 162.7M American citizens employed, these 8 companies alone employ almost 1% of the employed American citizens.
Thank you, President Trump for bringing together the Oligarchs who run our country. While working families struggle to survive due to your disastrous policies, they are now worth over $1.7 trillion, including:
Elon Musk: $920 billion
Jeff Bezos: $368 billion
Mark Zuckerberg: $250 billion
Jensen Huang: $200 billion
Obscene.
Hey, @Tesla owners, don’t be surprised if you see me looking at your car funny through the myriad of cameras when I spot your century has been activated because you parked too close to my F-150. 😂
What a troll. How many spacecraft in the EU space agency are reusable? We’ll just deduct the €67M from the invoice against their pollution and equipment waste, time required to plan navigation to avoid their space junk, etc.
