Jeffrey Sachs: “This is not Putin’s war, this is our war”.
Economist Jeffrey Sachs explains the origins of British Russophobia and arrives at a conclusion that is rare in the West: “We’re in the Second Crimean War for exactly the same reason that Palmerston and Napoleon III launched the First Crimean War. This is not Putin’s war, this is our war, ladies and gentlemen. It just came about in a slightly different way, but very similar.”

Show it once, then let it try. London startup Machenta has raised $40 million to develop robots that learn new tasks from a single demonstration, without further training. Its simulation-trained model also shows early promise with humanoid hands.

I have just published on my Substack the text of the speech that I gave at the first edition of the East-West Forum in Istanbul on September 26: I should like to begin my remarks with a remark made by Professor Panda this morning when he spoke of the return of the national interest. This gave me quite a bit to think; because although it is valid for many countries in the world, I think there is a huge exception to this rule. That big exception is Europe. If we look at the steps taken by European countries in recent years in economic policy, in the fields of security, in geopolitics and especially when it comes to the war in Ukraine, it is impossible to claim that these countries have been pursuing their national interests, no matter how much you stretch the concept. European countries have systematically undermined their core economic interests, security and geopolitical interests. The obvious question then is: why? In my opinion, there are two possible explanations for this. One possible explanation is the following: European leaders have been misguided, they have acted imprudently; despite all the hard evidence to the contrary, they have pursued and are still pursuing what they believe to be the national interest of their country. Now, if it had impossible to predict the consequences of these policies, perhaps this possibility would be conceivable. However, this was not the case at all. For example, it was obvious that severing ties with cheap Russian gas would be disastrous for Europe. Many of us, including me, wrote this as early as February or March 2022. We were able to predict this not because we are clairvoyants, but because it was evident. Just as it was evident that Ukraine had no chance of defeating Russia militarily, even with NATO support; therefore, it was just as obvious that pushing for a maximalist military-only solution to the conflict would spell disaster for Europe, not only economically but also in terms of security. This was even truer for Ukraine itself, of course. Many of us have been saying this from day one. Therefore, unless we assume that European leaders were too dumb — and as dumb as some of them undoubtedly are — to see this reality that was obvious to many observers, that is, that this policy clearly ran counter to Europe’s interests, and then to see that doubling down on that policy would only make things worse, we have to consider the other alternative on the table: that European elites, for a long time, have not been pursuing the national interests of their respective countries, nor the collective interests of Europe as a whole. In other words, the classical realist framework, which suggests that all states tend to defend and maximise their interests in economic, military and similar terms, doesn’t seem to apply to Europe. Because, when viewed from this theoretical perspective, the line followed by Europe remains completely irrational. We therefore need a different conceptual framework in order to make sense of European politics; and I believe that the most useful framework in this case is that of “vassalisation”. In the simplest terms, Europe — by which I mean virtually all EU countries and the entire Brussels establishment — has been hijacked by a transnationalised transatlantic elite that doesn’t care in the slightest about the concrete interests of their own countries and is in fact beholden to completely different interests: private interest, i.e., the interests of a narrow oligarchy — today, mainly the interests of transnational financial circles and military-industrial structures — and foreign interests, namely those of Washington’s imperial core (and, as a by-product, of Israel). Anyone who wants to work in a mid-level or higher public office in Europe should be required to study for at least 2 years in Southeast Asia. The level of intellectual clarity on world affairs there is very admirable.
That particular moment when George Yeo, Singapore’s former foreign minister, demonstrated a remarkably deep understanding of European history and the complex conflicts that have shaped the continent,an understanding that seems to elude many Western politicians. It is genuinely rare to hear a senior statesman speak with such historical depth, intellectual clarity, and geopolitical insight.....

Next time a stranger at a bar asks if you're a patriot, do not say yes. Chase Hughes walks through a hypothetical recruitment, and it starts with someone telling you he loves your podcast and then asking whether you'd consider yourself a patriot. That first yes is what he builds everything else on - your identity. Next he asks if you'd be willing to look at something that might be uncomfortable. Then he shows you your browsing history and webcam captures from your phones and computers, offers to keep it all out of the public eye, and puts $20,000 a month on the table. All you have to do is keep a few people off the show and leave a few things out, for your country. What gets me is that the protection covers more than your reputation. It also hands you a story you can live with, where every concession counts as service. "They don't build influencers. They find the ones who are already successful and recruit them." Apparently the benefits package includes getting to keep calling yourself independent. So be honest, has anybody here ever been approached with an indecent proposal?

1/2 BREAKING: According to my appeal, the court has ordered the Prosecutor General’s Office to open a case against SBU agents under Maliuk, who were involved in the abduction and murder of American journalist and blogger Gonzalo Lira. He was kidnapped and killed in pre-trial detention to cover up a $70,000 extortion attempt by Maliuk’s operatives - money they demanded from him in exchange for changing his detention status from prison to bail. @FBIDirectorKash @TuckerCarlson @DavidSacks @elonmusk Translation of the doc is in the thread.

BREAKING: My statement to President Trump. Mr. President Trump, @realDonaldTrump @POTUS The interview with Ukrainian woman speaking about the horrors in my country is telling only part of the truth. Under the rule of Zelensky, several generations of Ukrainian men have already been destroyed. He has forced 10 million people to leave the country. And he has driven the 20 million who remain into fear and despair. Ukraine once had a population of 52 million. What we are witnessing is a sophisticated form of genocide, the aim is to delete Ukraine off the world map. And Zelensky is the one who supports it. Ukrainians want to change their government. But Zelensky has taken away that possibility by canceling elections. His security forces, armed gangs, and police keep people living in fear. I am a member of the Ukrainian Parliament. I have been in prison for three years because I called for an end to the war and publicly spoke out against the destruction of the Orthodox Church. Zelensky put me in prison because I openly spoke about corruption in the Ukrainian government, including the Bidens and Burisma. Zelensky has also imprisoned another member of parliament, Yevhen Shevchenko, for similar reasons. Our colleague Artem Dmytruk @Dmytruk__Artem is living in exile. They also spoked about peace and peace deal with Russia. By making examples of us, Zelensky has frightened other members of parliament into silence. And ordinary Ukrainians are even more afraid to speak out. If we want Ukraine to have a chance to change its government and hold honest elections - elections that are necessary to end this war - we must first secure the release of civilian hostages: politicians, priests, and journalists. President Trump, we ask you to pay attention to the political prisoners and civilian hostages held by Zelensky and help to free these people. Without their freedom, there can be no honest elections. And there can be no peace. @elonmusk @johnpcoale @SEPeaceMissions @SteveWitkoff @jaredkushner @alexbruesewitz @FLOTUS #Ukraine #Peace #Trump

Lula vs. Bolsonaro: I was held in solitary confinement for 1,901 days for revealing the truth about the U.S. government's killings and espionage, including against Brazil and its industries. Out of power, Lula fought for my freedom. In power, Lula discussed my persecution with Pope Francis, who decided to meet with my family and offer help. After my release, Lula and I met in Rome to mourn the Holy Father's passing. Lula was kind to my children and asked for nothing in return. In contrast, Jair and Flávio Bolsonaro did nothing and said nothing. Yet without the ability to say no to Washington and Tel Aviv, there can be no domestic policy, only foreign instructions. Those orders are always the same: "Expand our theft of resources and wages, and keep your mouths shut about us murdering children." Sellouts will surrender everything in exchange for a cut, even their own tongues.
