What would the media say? Corruption. Conflict of interest. Electoral manipulation. A threat to democracy. But when a similar controversy unfolds in Brazil under Lula, the same media celebrates a “historic comeback.” And look at Mexico. Newspapers that claim to be independent, including @Reforma , are presenting Lula’s victory as a democratic triumph while failing to apply the same level of scrutiny to the judicial decisions and electoral irregularities being questioned. A historic comeback does not prove fraud. But it does not eliminate the obligation to investigate potential. In 211 municipalities across Brazil, Flávio defeated Lula in the first round on October 4, just three weeks ago, only for Lula to win those same municipalities in the runoff. In the opposite direction, from Lula to Flávio, only four municipalities flipped. And Bahia, where Justice Zanin extended voting hours at the request of Lula’s campaign, accounted for 87.5% of Lula’s 4.43 million-vote margin of victory.
