The Grifter Playbook Step 1: Say something stupid, controversial, or provocative Step 2: Get the attention you wanted. Positive and negative. Step 3: Claim that the negative attention is violating your right to free speech. Cry censorship. Step 4: Twist the principles of the First Amendment to mean that everyone actually has to listen to you, otherwise they are bigots, authoritarians, or whatever. Step 5: Monetize your victimhood, profiting off the engagement of people too dumb to know better.

One of the biggest chasms between the Two Cultures of the humanities & sciences is the former's disdain for anything but text. For decades I've seen humanities scholars aim to bridge the gap by inviting a scientist to speak but not thinking to arrange for a projector. When my first popular book, The Language Instinct, went out to reviewers, my editor thought the diagrams (syntactic trees, brains, language families) were ornamental and left them out of the proofs, rendering the discussions incomprehensible, and was genuinely surprised when I hit the ceiling. And when I was invited to edit Best Science and Nature Writing one year, the editor simply omitted all the diagrams from the essays I chose, saying that was the policy of the series, not realizing there might be a difference between, say Best Poetry or Short Stories and Best Science Writing.

The Soviet invasion of Poland on 17 September 1939 was a direct consequence of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, signed between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union on 23 August 1939. A secret protocol divided Poland between these two totalitarian regimes. britishpoles.uk/the-day-russ…

Much of the commentary is disconnected from not just the artifacts but reality. The problem is not political bias, but the new culture of curators. Just showing artifacts with neutral, factual descriptions is considered passe and pedantic... jonathanturley.org/2025/07/0…

I fired one once. Was surprised at how little kickback it had. Probably because it weighs a ton lol
