Record largest crowd at a high school football game was set in Illinois. No, not 26K at New Trier-Evanston at Northwestern. Soldier Field says 115K attended Leo High vs Austin High in 1937. It was also the largest attended American football game until 2016’s Tennessee-VaTech:

New Trier beat Evanston 42-28 at Northwestern’s new Ryan Field in their rivalry that started in 1913. That’s older than the Chicago Bears vs Green Bay Packers rivalry which began in 1921 at Cubs Park (now Wrigley Field). That year, Chicago won the 1st of their 9 NFL Championships

26,000+ tickets sold for New Trier v Evanston High School football game at Ryan Field. That’s more than Saturday’s announced attendance for Northwestern’s home game v Ball State. IHSA tells me they usually see 20-30K fans for each year’s state football championship games combined
