Solve a boring problem..
The hype train is roaring for AI, but that means everyone and their pet monkey is starting an AI startup. Is that where you want to compete?
There are tons of boring problems in unsexy industries waiting for you. And you can still use AI.

For some things GPT can obviate the need for a skill.
For others GPT can give you leverage but doesn't obviate the need for skill. In fact it might require MORE skill.
It's good to be aware of these two kinds of help GPT can provide you so you don't mistake one for the other.

Highly recommend Nathan for ongoing SaaS design/UX work.
He's been helping us fill this gap in SignWell now for several months and it's been amazing working with a true pro like him.
(And super nice working with someone that's been a SaaS founder so understands the business side/tradeoffs)

What if you sent an email to all customers, today, from the founder or CEO or product manager, saying you really want feedback on the company or product or anything, geniunely, and that you'll answer them.
Probably a deluge of responses.
Probably worth the time to respond.

I've raised $20m+ in VC.
I won what was the largest pitch competition in the world.
I've helped companies worth over $2bn raise capital, and run great board meetings.
In all that, one piece of presentation advice stands out above the rest:

considering launching a company to design and execute bespoke sabbaticals for executives.
They would be made by former execs who have gone through the journey and know how to dive deep, quickly. And around your specific goals.
They would not be cheap.

Sometimes my goal in writing is to produce results. This leads to shit.
Sometimes my goal is to make art. This leads to half-finished pieces, and melodramatic prose.
Sometimes my goal is to tell the truth. This is where my best work comes from.

This is a very thoughtful essay on "the power of defaults" -- exploring whether network effects are overrated or not.
The author, Julian, does an amazing job at breaking down the "platform layers" of Apple, Google, FB, etc. Worth reading.

PSA: If you use Twitter to sign in to stuff, you should double check you have another way to get in to those accounts asap. With Twitter charging ??? for API access next week, you have no way of knowing whether the apps you use are going to pay that. – at Portland, OR

Stuck in a meeting debating ideas? Go out and test. Can’t decide what to do? Go out and test. Convinced you have the answer after talking to your friends about your “awesome new idea”? Go out and test. When in doubt, test. And then test some more.

It's hard to know when to shut down your startup. You'll have put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into it.
Be intellectually honest with yourself. Chances are you KNOW what to do.

Recent "Ask HN":
"Do you hate software engineering but love programming?"
Sure, but that's like saying "I like being in a band when we're performing but not when we're practicing or calling around trying to get gigs."
Gotta do all the work, to be in a band.

Anyhow: the early adopter discount to Bits about Money was scheduled to end on the 25th but then press coverage happened on the 26th, and since I wanted to be fair to folks just tuning in, I extended discount through the end of January.
