IFAB law 14.1 states a goalkeeper must not ‘behave in a way that that unfairly distracts the kicker, eg touch the goalposts or crossbar’
John McGinn missed his penalty for #AVFC against Fulham with Bernd Leno touching the bar while he was running up to take it.
Former referee Dermot Gallagher confirmed on Ref Watch that it should’ve been re-taken and it was missed by VAR.
Five goals from 2.18 xG now…
Nicolas Jackson scored 18 of his 61 big chances at Chelsea. So far at #AVFC, he’s scored three of five.
Seven goals in his last nine appearances. Four of his PL goals have come from just 1.98 xG. Erling Haaland is the only striker overperforming by a greater margin.
He also leads the way for dribbles completed and runs ahead of the ball for forwards, too.
The move to Villa was mutually beneficial - but the early success has exceeded expectations.

I’ve stumbled (gone out of my way to see what I said) across this today.
I wrote it when the pieces of the rebuild at #AVFC were still being put together.
Nice to see everything gather pace now.
Changes were needed, as Unai Emery said himself, and this squad is now more exciting than ever.
Why Aston Villa’s summer points towards a well-needed and timely rebuild, as opposed to a ‘nightmare’ window…
Losing key players is never a blessing, but it shouldn’t be seen as a curse either.

#AVFC minute retention from last season down to 50.4% following exits for Ollie Watkins and Emi Martinez.
Only #NFFC have had a bigger rebuild since 2021.
ALT Pie chart showing minute retention at Arsenal and Aston Villa before Gabriel Jesus joined Barcelona
#AVFC have retained 65.6% of their first team minutes from last season, the lowest of any team in the Premier League.
Spurs follow closely but that rebuild was needed. Villa have been pulled apart from a point of success.
Unai Emery’s side also have the lowest net spend in the Premier League…
One week until Deadline Day. It’s going to be busy…
