Burning wood is devastating people's health, especially in cities 🔥
Despite that, sales of wood burning stoves are increasing 🚨
So how can councils and campaigners inform people about the connections between wood burning and air pollution? 🧵👇

I fear next week's Twitter cabbie meltdown over Oxford Street's pedestrianisation will be apocalyptic. In 3 months' time, no one will care and will wonder why it wasn't done years ago
Remember the outrage when they removed cars from Trafalgar Square? Aldwych? Now, no one cares

Go for a walk on almost any farm in Britain and ask yourself where a hedgehog might find food, water or shelter there. The rough edges, pockets of scrub, areas of unkempt long grass, piles of dead wood, marshy wet areas and ponds, all tidied away. There’s nowhere left for them.

A reminder that welfare spending as a percentage of GDP is at 10.6 % currently and was at 13.5% when the Conservatives were in charge.
55% of claimants are pensioners, most of whom vote Conservative.

The GRU hacked into Jared Kushner's iPhone. Dutch military intelligence (MIVD) then recruited a GRU spy who gave them access to the hacked phone. What MIVD discovered was that Kushner had access to two bank accounts --one Azerbaijani, the other Israeli --where Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Emirati ruler Mohammed bin Zayed deposited money. It sounds like a slightly far-fetched episode of "Slow Horses," but it's real. And it proves just how eye-poppingly corrupt this administration was and continues to be as its "special envoy" decides the fate of tens of millions in Europe in the Middle East. Simply incredible reporting by Matthew Cole, drawn from his new book on Kushner. vanityfair.com/story/jared-k…

Expensive gas behind ‘nearly 90%’ of rise in UK electricity bills, new analysis from @nesta_uk in @CarbonBrief
Contradicts idea, which has become embedded in UK media and political narratives, that UK’s net zero target is to blame for high energy bills

Former Just Stop Oil donor Dale Vince on Jackdaw:
“The fuss made by environmentalists is inversely proportional to the impact of this. It’s a tiny gas field that already had a licence.
"This is a pragmatic decision; it’s the right one."
"Had the UK invested more in renewables and nuclear earlier – the latter once dismissed by Nick Clegg as pointless because it wouldn’t “come on stream” until the early 2020s – we would be far less reliant on gas."

Landsec has pulled out of its £1.5bn investment in Lewisham shopping centre, citing Mayor @LiamShrivastava's Green administration's lack of support.

Clean air shouldn’t be a privilege.
In London, we’ve seen how bold action on air quality can make a huge difference.
⬇️ Harmful roadside pollution down by 27%
⬇️ 40% fall in estimated deaths linked to toxic air
That’s real progress. But everyone, no matter their background or where they live, deserves cleaner air.

All things considered, Reeves and Starmer are probably going to have better economic legacies than their departures might have indicated.

Annualised UK GDP growth so far in 2026, with two-thirds of the year gone, is 2.7-2.8%
Is expected to slow in q4, but that was also expected in q3. And q2.
City economists (eg Pantheon) say “we have to shift from describing UK growth as resilient to calling it strong”.

It cannot be overstated how every one of these tankers going down either in Europe or the Middle East is its own massive ecological disaster.
Once you add them all up we’re talking about ecocide at that point. We’re killing everything with these wars. Not just us.
