Thank Thatcher
The biggest scam in the UK is that we have normalised being fucking skint every month while working full time.

This is Lord Rothermere the owner of the Daily Mail. He lives in a massive mansion in the English countryside, but he pays no tax here because he identifies as French. While the Daily Mail is registered in Bermuda and pays no tax anywhere. That is his ‘Patriotism’.

Rayner admits demand for leasehold flats has fallen off a cliff. The government’s answer? Not universal Right to Manage, giving leaseholders control of their service charges. Instead, it’s Help to Buy 2: funnelling a new generation of innocent young buyers into serfdom boxes.
Service charges up 26% in a year. Our supporters are clinging on by their fingernails while the government retreats on its manifesto promise to end leasehold. @andyburnham talks about taking back control. So why won’t his upcoming Bill give leaseholders the Right to Manage?

Pennycooks response definitely showed he has been rattled... The Starmer game of everything will happen sometime later is over!!! Leaseholders' lives are on hold and want legislation / abolition NOW!!! 5 million leaseholders wl let their feelings known at the ballot box!
They’re not laughing now. They said leasehold could never become a top-tier political issue. It was too technical. Not sexy like planning reform. Westminster didn’t care. That’s what they told me when I set up the campaign in 2023. Yesterday, the prescribed rates for extending a lease or buying the freehold (!!) became a national political talking point on Laura Kuenssberg’s show on BBC One, with @AngelaRayner struggling to bat back the detail. There we go. An issue supposedly too technical for Westminster to care about is now being put directly to the Housing Secretary and a former deputy prime minister on the biggest political show in the country. Those of us in the five million households living under leasehold are not here to be smirked at or palmed off. Service charges are soaring and more and more leasehold homes are becoming unmortgageable and unsellable because of the greed and corruption of feudal-style freeholders and their managing agents. The old politics of spin, silence, word salad and cosy relationships between journalists and those in power doesn’t work like it used to. In this new information age, traditional media gatekeepers are being forced to respond to campaigners like us. And if they don’t cover the story, we make our own with vertical videos and briefings. So, Secretary of State, can you give leaseholders a cast-iron guarantee that the costs of extending their lease or buying their freehold will fall under the government’s reforms? Labour is abandoning its manifesto promise to end the leasehold system. In opposition, Labour warned that governments could be “lobbied by vested interests” into setting enfranchisement rates “that will be punitive for leaseholders”. @mtpennycook himself tabled amendments to the legislation that became the 2024 Act, seeking to make premiums “as cheap as possible for leaseholders”. Yet in a consultation that Ministers had refused to publicise, and which closed on Wednesday, we find the U-turn buried in the detail: “... it is not intended to use prescribed rates in and of themselves, as a means of further reducing premiums for leaseholders”. The policy on enfranchisement rates is now merely to: “... reduce the potential for dispute and provide certainty for leaseholders, freeholders and professionals as to what to expect from this part of the enfranchisement process.” How convenient for the freeholder lobby. This is a huge political story, picked up last week by The Times, POLITICO and Guido Fawkes. No wonder Pennycook has taken to X to dismiss scrutiny of the government’s quiet betrayal of leaseholders as “misinformation”, as though The Times were some Russian bot account. They said leasehold could never become a major political issue. We’ve made it one. And we’re not going away. Every attempt to water down reform, every delay and every broken promise will face fierce scrutiny and carry an ever-higher political cost until they @FreeLeasehlders.

Rayner is crap!!! She talked a good one in opposition but has soon been told what she is allowed to do by the big money people and she's caved, just like all the rest!
In opposition, Labour argued reducing LH premiums should be determining factor. In gov, Raynor won't guarantee costs will fall & the consultation reportedly says prescribed rates aren't intended to reduce premiums. A fundamental change of emphasis. Labour explain @FreeLeasehlders

Rayner is so unconvincing. Close your eyes and just listen to her voice. She doesn’t believe a word that comes out of her own mouth. Our government are held captive by vested interests. Meanwhile bankrupting our once great nation. So sad.
LABOUR IS BACKTRACKING It’s now a top-tier political issue, with @bbclaurak drawing a car-crash performance from @AngelaRayner. Rayner refused to give leaseholders a cast-iron guarantee that the cost of extending a lease or buying out the freehold will come down. Yet that was Labour’s position in opposition. Labour warned that governments could be “lobbied by vested interests” into setting enfranchisement rates “that will be punitive for leaseholders”. And @mtpennycook even tabled amendments to the legislation that became the 2024 Act, seeking to make premiums “as cheap as possible for leaseholders”. Yet for the past two and a half years, the government has been stalling on the commencement of these enfranchisement reforms, already on the statute book, claiming they will only come into force once it has made “fixes” to the 2024 Act through the forthcoming Commonhold and Leasehold Reform Bill. But Pennycook’s opposition amendments, which sought to establish a “guiding principle” of “reducing premiums for leaseholders to their lowest possible level”, are not being carried forward. Look at the small print of the government consultation on lease extension and freehold buy-out rates that neither Rayner nor Pennycook publicised in the media. It opened on 15 July without an awareness campaign and closed on Wednesday. Once these rates are picked by Ministers, they are locked in for 10 years: what leaseholders must pay. The policy will decide whether leasehold will live or die. Leaseholders were left out in the cold again, while the consultation’s obscure legal and technical jargon favoured freeholders and their lawyer and valuer lobbyists, who will have flooded it with responses. Even our supporters who are economists, have PhDs, or have backgrounds in finance and regulation said they had never encountered a more exclusionary or gamed government consultation in their lives. But buried in that consultation is Labour’s U-turn, in paragraph 14: “… it is not intended to use prescribed rates in and of themselves, as a means of further reducing premiums for leaseholders”. The enfranchisement rates policy is now merely to: “... reduce the potential for dispute and provide certainty for leaseholders, freeholders and professionals as to what to expect from this part of the enfranchisement process.” So much, then, for Labour’s manifesto promise to “act where the Conservatives have failed and finally bring the feudal leasehold system to an end”. No wonder Rayner and Pennycook are lashing out. Note the sass when Rayner invokes the Prime Minister, as if @andyburnham saying the right things about leasehold were enough to guarantee that this government will ensure a policy agenda repeatedly captured by vested interests finally favours leaseholders, not the property mafia. All the evidence of the past two and a half years, the excuses, foot-dragging and U-turns, points in the opposite direction. And Rayner acts as if journalists in a democracy need ask no further questions about this vitally important issue. We want to work with the Prime Minister and his Number 10 team to get these reforms right, but we’re being shut out. It doesn’t help when the PM’s housing minister is calling the government’s U-turn “misinformation”. We’ve run this campaign long enough to know that talking is not the same as doing. And leaseholders are rapidly running out of time. Ending leasehold is the test of the Burnham government, whether they want it to be or not.

Leasehold is destroying the governments plans for their housing targets... LEASEHOLD ABOLITION is the only solution. Let people own what they bought!!!! ANYTHING ELSE IS A SCAM
I understand why we journalists press Labour on their housing target - but IMO questioning why they won’t hit it & what they plan to do is now far more urgent: - housebuilding in trouble because of rising costs and developers unwilling or unable to adjust their profit expectations…plus - …younger buyers locked out so can’t buy their homes partly because of… - fluctuating mortgage rates due to global volatility… - and the fact nobody in their right mind wants a leasehold flat now (flats key to building at scale)

I don't want a relative to get it and wondered how i could off load to maximise the nightmare for some fkr responsibile for this leasehold nightmare
Everyone with a leasehold debt trap should state in your will that you leave your property to "The Lords Commissioners of His Majesty's Treasury" (the formal legal entity for the UK Treasury). No one wants to leave this mess to a relative right ?

Politicians are just bought and paid for by big business. They are no longer aware they are voted to serve the constituency. Their position is like winning the lottery for them. They almost all become rich!!!
“We elect politicians to represent us, the citizens. Yet, these politicians show us that everything they do is against the citizens and the younger generation. Wow!”

By moving to the US, foreign born Johnson is effectively going back to where he came from. I’m sure the far right will be glad to hear that he is “going home”.

Exactly!!! People are finally coming together to expose this TOXIC LEASEHOLD SCAM that's destroying lives!!! A home is a basic essential. We should be able to choose who we share it with and control the costs!! LEASEHOLD IS SLAVERY
Our people don’t take to the streets. But a revolution is happening anyway. With our wallets. Developers blame regulation. Journalists don’t ask the obvious question: What if buyers simply don’t want leasehold scam flats anymore?
