Thermal Energy Storage is finally being understood as a solution for dispatching renewable energy and that buildings are a great application for thermal energy storage. apple.news/AV540M42ITU25xT3a…

#energystorage is a hot topic for ASHRAE attendees this week.

Buildings have thermal and electrical loads. About half are thermal. Use thermal energy storage for thermal loads and batteries for electrical. More affordable more efficient more flexible.
I'm off the grid at the ranch for this grid emergency... Our micro grid is cranking... We have to keep the AC going because we are out of room in the batteries to store it. Freedom!

Thermal energy storage is affordable and reliable NOW. It creates a market for wind, it shifts load off peak to when it is cheaper or cleaner or both. Plus we can use it with heat pumps to reduce winter demand!
The #TXenergy grid narrowly avoided rolling blackouts following 2 conservation calls by ERCOT last week. We need demand-side solutions & policy action. 🚨Have you registered for our Policy + Industry Workshop, Sept. 26-27 in Austin? eepartnership.org/2022-speer…

Thermal energy storage incentives could lower the requirement with resiliency and reliability
#energytwitter - Anyone have a really evocative graphic for the utter scale of renewables we have to add to the mix to meet climate goals? Either globally, US, regionally, etc.? I have a few I use but I feel like people really, really don't get the scale of how many TW needed.
Add to that the commercial opportunity of thermal energy storage. Transparent DER’s that would provide cooling during curtailment. Sharing the savings would incentivize more installations. Almost half of all building loads are thermal! Makes to much sense
Fun math - ERCOT wholesale pricing currently pegged at $5000/MWh. @austinenergy is asking me to curtail my thermostat for 2 hours (3:30-5:30pm). At 5kW, that's 10kWh of energy, worth about $50 on the wholesale market. And, they will pay me $0. So much untapped DR potential.
How about thermal energy storage? Move the HVAC on peak load to other times. 75% of all electricity goes to buildings and half of that is thermal loads. Proven. Reliable. Efficient. Affordable.#thermal energy storage
The ability to shift load to save money or reduce carbon will be very important sooner rather than later. trane.com/commercial/north-a…
Buildings use almost 75% of all electricity. Half of that load is for thermal loads such as space conditioning, hot water, etc. Yet thermal energy storage is not promoted by anyone at any legislative or utility level? TES is manufactured in NJ. TES is affordable & good policy
Today I start working full-time on energy policy @NJBPU (moving from a legal role). In honor of my new role, anyone have a favorite oddball energy policy they want to share? Winning answers may (or may not) be added to NJ's policy agenda. Kidding. Mostly.
Love it. Don’t forget #energystorage on the customer side of the meter. About half a commercial buildings loads are thermal. #thermalstorage #thermalbatteries should be in every building. In new construction very quick payback. Load flexibility is the key
I'm excited by advances in grid scale batteries. Energy storage has always been a good partner for power plants that run best at a steady rate at or near their full capacity. Storage provides short term flexibility Supplies extra at peak demand. Charge during lulls
Buildings have thermal loads too. Long duration thermal batteries must be a part of the energy storage conversation.
ESS is drawing a crowd at Intersolar in Munich! Visit us on Stand 181 in Hall B2 to find out what’s causing the interest.

Thoughtful movement forward with rebates for affordable reliable load shifting technologies and rates that shape consumption behavior.
This plan is a failure in vision, urgency, and ultimately what’s needed. It abdicates the state’s purported leadership role and fails all of us, but especially communities most impacted by fossil fuel combustion.
As the grid becomes greener customers that can shift load based upon grid signals will be the low cost operators. Buildings with #thermalenergystorage will have a huge advantage. Especially if they use the ice storage to heat as electrification moves forward.
The Case for Transmission, part 349... The price of electricity in Fort Bend (outside Houston) is $340/mwh. Ouch. Two counties over, in Calhoun, it is -$910/mwh. That's negative.
Those commercial buildings with #Thermalenergystorage won’t notice as much because they can shift demand. Buildings without energy storage will pay top dollar.
Heat buildings with electricity from a green grid. Heat with ice youtu.be/HFzngLMLbXs
Electricity is only the tip of the iceberg. Heat accounts for approximately 50% of energy use and about 40% of global CO2 emissions according to @IEA. To meet the climate goals we must decarbonise heat.
