How desperate must a Filipino be to sleep on a sidewalk just to secure government assistance for hospital bills, surgery, or even a loved one’s funeral? A viral Threads post showing people sleeping on the pavement outside government offices has triggered public outrage, exposing the humiliating ordeal that financially distressed Filipinos reportedly endure just to obtain medical assistance. Threads user @paulette_cgyn shared photographs of people lying on the sidewalk, some resting against concrete pillars, while others waited nearby. According to the uploader, the scene was outside the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the House of Representatives, where applicants were hoping to receive financial assistance. “Mawawalan ka talaga ng lakas kapag nakikita mong ganito kalala ang sistema ng pagpapagamot sa bansa,” the uploader wrote. “Kawawang maging Pilipino.” The uploader claimed that people were already spending the night outside as early as 10 p.m., hoping to secure a place in the queue the following day. Even more disturbing was the apparent lack of basic accommodations for applicants, many of whom were already dealing with illness, financial hardship, or a death in the family. “Ano ba yung magprovide tayo ng kahit upuan na lang eh o bubong na masisilungan para sa kanila,” the uploader lamented. PUBLIC OUTRAGE ERUPTS The photographs unleashed angry reactions from netizens who questioned why taxpayers must practically beg for assistance from their own government. “Para ka palaging nagmamakaawa sa sarili mong pera,” commented @mrnclrv. Another netizen, @daleks747, criticized a system that seemingly forces ordinary citizens to plead for assistance that should be accessible to them. Others shared their own experiences of exhausting queues and complicated procedures. One commenter recalled spending an entire day processing burial assistance documents in 2023, only to return a week later for the release of the money. The original uploader also claimed that some applicants had gone home after being told that the day’s 150 available slots were already filled. A SYSTEM THAT PUNISHES THE POOR? The controversy has renewed criticism of the country’s fragmented medical assistance system. Government programs such as DSWD’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) and the Department of Health’s Medical Assistance to Indigent and Financially Incapacitated Patients (MAIFIP) are designed to help Filipinos struggling with medical expenses. Yet for many applicants, obtaining assistance can mean navigating multiple offices, submitting extensive documentation, and enduring long queues without any guarantee of approval. Netizens are now demanding a more humane system, including organized appointments, adequate waiting areas, extended service hours, and faster processing. The precise circumstances of the photographed queue, including the location and date, have not been independently verified. The agencies concerned have not been shown in the supplied material to have responded to the specific allegations. But the outrage points to a disturbing reality: For Filipinos already devastated by sickness and poverty, seeking government assistance can become another battle for survival. The cruelest part is not simply that people are sleeping on sidewalks. It is that desperation has become an accepted part of asking the government for help. Hey, @RichHeydarian, calling the other side a “cult” suggests you’ve run out of facts-based arguments. My dear, name-calling won’t win you public support. Your arguments are bakya. Flaunt your academic credentials all you want, but they mean little without common sense and street smarts.

I have signed the🚨‘UPDATED’🚨petition opposing Meghan Markle’s appearance on Junior MasterChef Australia. Any adult who is alleged to have remained silent in the face of potential sexual abuse of a child, particularly where there may be concerns that the abuse could be ongoing, must be subject to serious scrutiny. The welfare of children must always take precedence over celebrity, reputation or commercial interests. Children deserve role models whose conduct stands up to scrutiny, not individuals whose judgement in matters concerning child protection raises serious questions. Child safeguarding is not a public relations exercise. It is a moral responsibility. Until these concerns have been properly addressed, the question of presenting oneself as an appropriate influence on children deserves the most serious consideration. Our children deserve better. 🎩💜 c.org/9n8D9JRzd9

From Corazon Guidote PROPAGANDA?

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle need to remove themselves from public life permanently. They are HATED worldwide and UNWANTED by everyone because of their abuse and cruelty towards the late Queen and Prince Philip, Harry’s own grandparents, Harry’s brother and sister in law and Harry’s father and step mother. They have told a series of demonstrable lies and stories based on unsubstantiated assertions for vast sums of money knowing fully that the Royal Family were unable to defend themselves and that their heinous slander would go unchallenged legally. They are hated for the decades long accounts of their gross mistreatment and abuse of their staff including the staff of the late Queen and staff at charities. They are despised for their grotesque entitlement and greed in using Royal titles for profit and commercial purposes when this is forbidden by the Crown. They have been told they are no longer working Royals and yet pretend and pose as if they are abusing the goodwill and lack of understanding of some members of the public, organizations and countries. They have spent a decade using charities, the vulnerable, sick and dying children and others as props to sell merchandise and for free PR while posing as good people who are working Royals. Harry has been accused and sued for defamation in the past and many reports have provided evidence showing he lied in court about his relationship with a journalist. Meghan has been shown in reports to have lied in court proceedings. They have publicly harassed and harangued the King, who is elderly and suffering from cancer, incessantly and mercilessly for a decade. This has been nothing short of abuse. There are so many examples of their utter degeneracy that it is impossible to list them all. Books, interviews, documentaries all selling his good and decent family up the river for millions. Harry was warned but Harry has shown what a deeply sick, morally corrupt and unsavory individual he is and after seeing Meghan’s behaviour and abuse of others it is little wonder he chose her. And now Meghan shows she has known of child SA allegations for 8 years and stayed silent and did nothing. In the past few days we have seen her and her brother, both sickening and monstrous degenerates of the worst kind, publicly condemn a person, their own father, without a charge, a trial or a guilty finding. Even if he is found to be guilty this is monstrous behaviour at this stage. There are now reports suggesting Meghan forged the letter she claims to have been given by police. Even so there are endless questions about her conduct at every stage of this sorry saga just as there are about everything she does. They are unfit for any kind of public purpose and despised for who they are the world over.

So she goes to Australia... ...to do a cooking series with children... ...while the media is lit up about Dad's abuse of children... ...and she may have had knowledge about those children. Her mother, Doria, is under investigation for Aged Care fraud. Her brother has a drinking problem and is looking to cash in. Her sister has been caught in her own set of lying. M has shown what a terrible liar, fraud, thief and con she is. That Markle clan is cursed and a dark chaos runs through them. There'll be no English speaking Country to go to for cover, in the near future. This is not a Royal Family scandal, but now would be a good time to get Harry & Meghan off the Royal Website.

These are Dave Ramsey’s comments about going cashless. No one has explained it better. He brings up several situations most of us had never considered. For those who may not know, Dave Ramsey is an American radio personality who offers financial advice. No cash means absolutely NO CASH. So try this… the next store you go in and order a drink or want to buy their product and they tell you “card only”, walk away. I have done this out of principle, and will continue to do so. Dave Ramsey repost: HERE'S WHAT NO CASH ACTUALLY MEANS: A cashless society means no cash. Zero. It doesn’t mean mostly cashless and you can still use a ‘wee bit of cash here & there’. Cashless means fully digital, fully traceable, fully controlled. I think those who support a cashless society aren’t fully aware of what they are asking for. A cashless society means: * If you are struggling with your mortgage in a particular month, you can’t do an odd job to get you through. * Your child can’t go & help the local farmer to earn a bit of summer cash. * No more cash slipped into the hands of a child as a good luck charm or from their grandparent when going on holidays. * No more money in birthday cards. * No more piggy banks for your child to collect pocket money & to learn about the value of earning. * No more cash for a rainy day fund or for that something special you have been putting $20 a week away for. * No more little jobs on the side because your wages barely cover the bills or put food on the table. * No more charity collections. * No more selling bits & pieces from your home that you no longer want/need for a bit of cash in return. * No more cash gifts from relatives or loved ones. What a cashless society does guarantee: * Banks have full control of every single penny you own. * Every transaction you make is recorded. * All your movements & actions are traceable. * Access to your money can be blocked at the click of a button when/if banks need ‘clarification’ from you, which will take about 3 weeks, a thousand questions answered & five thousand passwords. * You will have no choice but to declare & be taxed on every dollar in your possession. * The government WILL decide what you can & cannot purchase. * If your transactions are deemed in any way questionable, by those who create the questions, your money will be frozen, ‘for your own good’. Forget about cash being dirty. Stop being so easily led. Cash has been around for a very, very, very long time & it gives you control over how you trade with the world. It gives you independence. If you are a customer, pay with cash. If you are a shop owner, remove those ridiculous signs that ask people to pay by card. Cash is legal tender; it is our right to pay with cash. Banks are making it increasingly difficult to deposit cash. Please open your eyes. Please stop believing everything you are being told. Almost every single topic in today’s world is tainted with corruption & hidden agendas. Pay with cash & please say no to a cashless society while you still have the choice. You are welcome to share this 😊

The Royal Family needs to clean house, and they need to do it NOW! It’s always the non-working royals and their associations bringing scandals, controversy, and endless embarrassment to the institution. Enough is enough. Strip non-working royals of their titles, privileges, and official association with the Royal Family. Why should the monarchy have to answer for the controversies and alleged scandals surrounding people who no longer carry out royal duties? What does Meghan Markle’s father, who has been the subject of serious allegations involving paedophilia, have to do with the Royal Family? Absolutely nothing. Let Harry and Meghan Markle deal with their own family, their own controversies, and whatever skeletons may be in their closets. The monarchy cannot keep preaching duty, service, and standards while allowing its name to be dragged into every scandal involving people who have chosen to live outside its working structure. It’s time for accountability. It’s time for consequences. It’s time to draw a line in the sand. Clean house. Strip the privileges. Protect the institution. And do it NOW!

June 6, 1944. An American paratrooper jumps into Normandy in the dark and lands on the roof of a church. By the end of the war he had been declared dead, held a funeral he didn't attend, escaped the Nazis, and fought his way toward Berlin in a Soviet tank unit. His name was Joseph Beyrle. He's believed to be the only American soldier to serve in both the US Army and the Red Army during World War Two. Beyrle was from Muskegon, Michigan. He joined the 101st Airborne, the Screaming Eagles. His buddies called him Jumpin' Joe. On D-Day night his plane was hit by flak and he jumped early. He came down on a church roof, slid off, and lost his unit in the chaos. For a few days he fought on his own, blowing up a power station and cutting German communications. Then he was captured. Here's where it gets strange. A German soldier ended up wearing Beyrle's uniform and dog tags. That German was killed. When the body was found, the Americans identified it as Joseph Beyrle. The army told his parents their son was dead. His hometown held a funeral mass for him. His obituary ran in the local paper. Meanwhile, he was very much alive, being moved from one German prison camp to another. He escaped more than once. One time he and two other prisoners jumped off a train heading east. They thought they were heading for Russia and freedom. They got lost and ended up in Berlin, where they were caught by the Gestapo, beaten, and tortured. In January 1945, from a camp in eastern Germany, he finally made a clean escape. He went east, toward the gunfire. Toward the Soviets. When he found a Soviet tank unit, he walked out with his hands up, holding a pack of Lucky Strike cigarettes, and shouted the only Russian he knew. American comrade. It worked. He asked to join them. And they said yes. For about a month, an American paratrooper rode with Soviet tank crews as they pushed toward Germany. He used his demolition training. He fought. He was reportedly welcomed by a Soviet officer who was one of the rare women commanding a tank battalion. Then a German dive bomber attacked. Beyrle was badly wounded. He was evacuated to a Soviet hospital. Soviet Marshal Georgy Zhukov reportedly visited, heard his story, and gave him papers to get to the American embassy in Moscow. When he showed up, the embassy didn't believe him. As far as the US was concerned, Joseph Beyrle was dead. They held him under guard until his fingerprints proved who he was. He made it home to Michigan in April 1945. In 1946 he got married. In the same church where they'd held his funeral. Decades later, in 1994, he was honored at the White House by President Bill Clinton and Russian President Boris Yeltsin for serving both countries. And the last twist. His son, Joseph Beyrle II, grew up to become the United States Ambassador to Russia.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Joseph Robert “Joe” Beyrle had two sons. The elder son, Joe Beyrle II, served during the Vietnam War, but wasn’t a US Ambassador. That was the other son, John Beyrle. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Be…

My grandmother had a pen pal in Wisconsin for 78 years. It started in 1946. She was 9. An American soldier in her town shared his rations with her family through a hard winter. When he went home, he wrote to them. She wrote back. Every Christmas, a card came from Wisconsin. Every Christmas, one went back. When he passed away, his daughter kept writing. When she passed, his granddaughter took over. Three generations of one American family. One Japanese grandmother. My grandmother died this spring. Last week, a Christmas card arrived early. Addressed to her. The granddaughter didn't know. My grandfather is 91. He doesn't speak English. He asked me to help him write back and tell her. Two weeks later, a heavy box came from Wisconsin. Inside were letters. Hundreds of them. Every letter my grandmother ever sent. Seventy-eight years. Kept in order. Tied with ribbon. A note on top: "We think these belong to you now." My grandfather had never read them. He never knew what she'd written all those years. So every night now, I read him one. 1958: "I married a quiet man. He is very kind." 1971: "My husband still cannot say what he feels. But he fixed the roof before the rain." Last December: "My husband is 90 now. He still holds my hand when we cross the street. He thinks nobody notices." He listens with his eyes closed. Last night, when I finished, he said: "Read that one again."

Whoaaa. Tokyo inside the Philippine Sea.
When people hear the word Tokyo, they picture neon billboards, thirty-seven million people, and the busiest train stations on Earth. Yet this island in the middle of the Philippine Sea is officially part of Tokyo. Every car on the island wears a Tokyo license plate. This is Aogashima, an active double-caldera volcano rising 1,380 feet straight out of the deep blue ocean, two hundred and twenty miles south of the capital. Inside a massive outer ring of jagged volcanic cliffs sits a second, smaller green cone called Maruyama. Only about 160 people live inside the crater, making it the smallest municipality in Japan. There is one general store, one post office, and zero traffic lights. The only way in is a twenty-minute ride on a nine-seat commuter helicopter or a small ferry that can only dock when the ocean waves allow it. Living inside an active volcano comes with a perk. Around the inner crater, natural geothermal steam vents called Hingya hiss out of the earth. Locals do not need gas stoves to cook lunch at the park. They place sweet potatoes, eggs, and fresh fish inside wooden boxes built directly over the volcanic vents and steam them for free. They even use the volcanic heat to evaporate ocean water into prized mineral salt. At night, with zero city lights for two hundred miles, the sky above the crater turns into a solid ceiling of stars.

William has all the power now – and Harry knows it more than ever The Duke of Sussex is a prince saddled with a scandal-hit father-in-law and stuck on the wrong side of palace walls. Small wonder Harry craves re-entry to the royal firm, says Tessa Dunlop. Just a shame, then, that William can afford to hold a grudge. Forget politics, a week is a long time in the royal goldfish bowl. It began on Wednesday when Harry proved he was still able to stop the press when he let the world know that reconciliation with his family is ‘the most important thing’ to him. Confronted by the British weather (mixed) and a royal welcome (frosty), Harry’s return to England appears to have alerted him to what he no longer has – a seat at Britain’s top table. Pictures of the Duke, casual in suede boots and jeans for a puff piece in GQ magazine contrasted starkly with William and Kate’s set piece at a state visit for the King of Oman in Windsor Castle on the same day. Prince Harry the celebrity wannabe, versus King William-in-waiting. Those optics have changed slightly since. Firstly William has proven he doesn’t just have the top table at his fingertips but the most accommodating sofa too - Graham Norton’s, where he joined a line-up of carefully curated guests last night to promote his latest Earthshot awards. independent.co.uk/news/uk/ho…
