I have made a 20 minute video of my talk at the Autism Show yesterday on the topic of recovering from burnout.
It is aimed at autistic young people, but parents and professionals said it was helpful for them too.
You can watch it here: youtu.be/l_LA35VXv9g?si=FiNO…
Can you help James and his family raise money to save a music project for neurodivergent people in the SW? Good Luck on your walk James, I hope it doesn’t rain TOO much! 🥾
And so it begins. Our son James is autistic & really musical. With me & his sister, he's walking Hadrian's Wall to help a brilliant charitable musical project for neurodivergent people. We're in Carlisle. It will rain. 70miles to go. Pls donate if you can gofundme.com/f/james-harriss…

Eliza, an illustrator who used drawing to process her emotions around her family’s awful experiences of school trauma, is offering a webinar on how you might draw your story (even if you can’t draw!) ✍️
Just sharing because it’s so utterly beautiful
Just back from a wonderful poetry reading at my children's school.
This was one of my daughter's contributions to the evening.
I know I will never have the vision to write anything as beautiful as "I will unbutton the sea from the sky..."
(Thank you @CalebParkin for guiding her)

Tests aren't the ultimate measure of success & they don't define our worth. Our minds are unique & our strengths go far beyond what can be measured on a test paper. There are alternative paths to success that work for our strengths & interests. #Autism

We know that the assessment process for adults can be awful, so we try to do things differently. We’re constantly striving to improve & our client feedback tells us we are on the right track. James’ wife experiences a lot of anxiety & so we wanted to make sure she felt safe
We want to thank everyone involved with the @AusomeIreland Minding Autistic Minds Conference. We are committed to listening & learning & events like this remind us of how much more we could be doing. It’s also been beautiful to watch an event run by & for the autistic community

It’s important to remember that the current diagnostic criteria for autism describe distressed autistic people, yet it’s perfectly possible to be autistic & thrive.
There was so much love, emotion and quiet but devastating power in @ElaineMcgreevy ‘s conference presentation for @AusomeIreland on Exploring Emotions. I have never ‘felt’ someone’s words in that way outside of poetry. Extraordinary 🙏
Why don’t we talk about a Neurotypical Spectrum? @KieranRose7 speaking at @AusomeIreland about the othering of autistic people
This morning Siobhán Uí Dhálaigh gave a truly excellent presentation for @AusomeIreland on authentic autistic inclusion. The concept that shone out was Belonging. How can we ensure a sense of real belonging for autistic people at school, in work, in society?
In this lovely film, autistic adults explain how their difficult experiences of school haven’t held them back or defined them youtu.be/SnqSSA573Lk?si=bnxr…
Watch our short film featuring clips from neurodivergent adults sharing their school experiences and what they're up to now. It's a beacon of hope for neurodivergent youth, reminding them that their school days don't define them.
