In May 2023 @paradigm quietly scrubbed "crypto" from its website and started calling itself a "research-driven technology investment firm". $BTC was at $25k at the time.
Today, a16z Crypto is becoming a16z Frontier. Since joining a16z in 2013, @cdixon has focused on technologies that look futuristic well before they reach the mainstream. Those themes led to investments in Oculus, Skydio, Zipline, Coinbase, Solana, and Uniswap. Frontier expands that mandate beyond crypto to back "outer planet" founders who are building new technologies and creating markets that may take years to develop. Chris joins @pmarca, @bhorowitz, and @eriktorenberg to discuss why crypto has become part of the broader tech landscape, why Frontier fills a hole in the firm's architecture, and why they'd rather be too early than too late. They also get into why the gap between AI-native startups and incumbents is the widest Marc has ever seen, how AI could pull forward 20 years of frontier technology, why stablecoins may become the way AI agents pay each other, how AI is breaking the internet's business model, and why today's 18-year-olds are about to become superhumans. 0:50 Introducing a16z Frontier 2:49 Smartphone parts to drones and VR 4:47 Backing the "outer planets" 7:11 Good ideas that look like bad ideas 10:43 The JP Morgan photo in Marc's office 15:13 Good tech ideas eventually work 16:53 AI may pull tech 20 years forward 18:18 The widest AI gap Marc's ever seen 22:06 Workers adopt AI before companies do 26:32 Old use cases vs. AI-native ones 30:08 Beyond "product manager brain" 34:45 AI can reverse engineer any hardware 38:23 The case for open source AI 46:36 How AI breaks the internet's model 49:11 VR, homebrew hacking, multiplayer AI 54:00 If you're 18, study "modern alchemy" YouTube: youtu.be/-9XQMHhpypc Not an offer or solicitation. I stopped buying Pump fun coins over 6 months ago, and the more I watch this shit, the more convinced I am that Pump fun is a grifting machine. We went from buying pure memes and building bags around culture to chasing the most disposable TikTok trends and viral moments that fit their revenue model. -Shorter attention spans. -Faster rotations. -More fees. More extraction. The culture has deteriorated into the lowest effort slop imaginable, while a handful of greedy broccoli heads get kingmade and everyone else fights for scraps. There's no value in this shit anymore. Not because memes can't have value, but because the culture that gave them value has been replaced by an extraction game. Fuck this machine. Delete Pump fun.

Kimchi sends his regards
Kimchi is the first person to truly cross the chasm between crypto and pop culture; the first ever example of a trader becoming a celebrity. He represents exactly where we’re heading: a massive social trading ecosystem that onboards retail and grows to 10x the size we were last cycle. The next wave of users does not come from CT - it comes from the masses - and we're proud to have Kimchi help us set the creative direction that will pave us on the path to a 100x larger ecosystem.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Kimchi is presented as a verified trader celebrity crossing into pop culture, but his signature claims of ~$40M profits trading $TRUMP (and resulting wealth) remain unverified with no disclosed wallet or on-chain proof. memecoin.wiki/wiki/kimchi bitcoinfoundation.org/news/people-in… tapbit.com/en/learn/artic…

this is like quantum fud but for gold lol
Last month, we demonstrated high-rate alchemy: turning mercury into real, stable gold, beating CERN’s record by a factor of 10. Last week, we enriched isotopes in the world’s most powerful plasma centrifuge, beating the Soviet record that stood for 40 years. Now, we’re building a fusion reactor in San Francisco to achieve record power density.

Smaller wallets (under 0.01 $BTC) have also been adding which signals retail coming back.
Wallets holding 10–10k $BTC have been accumulating aggressively since mid-July while price chops.

Remember when Elon and Joe Rogan discussed Gigachad for two minutes? $GIGA is actually a more recognisable and relatable meme than $DOGE or $PEPE. It's the biggest meme on earth. Billions
