#GeorgeFloyd we mourn the loss of your life today
"#ICantBreathe" your last words like #EricGarner's were the reason I helped #ShutItDown the Westside Highway on Dec 3, 2014.
And we're gonna shut it down for you!

The death penalty is inadmissible because it is an attack on the inviolability and dignity of the person. The common good can be safeguarded and the requirements of justice can be met without recourse to capital punishment: effective systems of detention have been developed that protect citizens while at the same time do not completely deprive those who are guilty of the possibility of redemption. #NoDeathPenalty

“This one meant a whole lot. We feel like the whole nation disrespects us in comparison to LSU. But at Ole Miss there’s a whole lot here that people don’t see.” ~ Trinidad Chambliss, Quarterback, Ole Miss Rebels, after beating LSU in Oxford!
Today, on September 11th, we honor the lives lost, pray for their families, and offer our deepest gratitude to the firefighters, police officers, and everyday heroes who stepped forward to help. Americans can overcome any adversity when we remain united, empathetic and grateful.
“Think tanks are as American as baseball, jazz & apple pie. They perform an unsung role in holding governments accountable at all levels...Such organizations and their supporters should not fear legal harassment when elected officials dislike their work.” washingtonpost.com/opinions/…

Happy Pentecost! With the current division & despair in our world, I find inspiration in Peter’s sermon in Acts 2 and the promise that God will "pour out my Spirit on all flesh." We truly need God’s Spirit to unify and mobilize us to do good in the world, following Jesus.
On Ash Wednesday, I joined a community of Christian leaders who released "A Call to Christians in a Crisis of Faith and Democracy." During Lent, I'm going to take a break from social media and pray, fast and help the poor (Matthew 6) acalltochristians.org/

At 6:30pm last night, Dan Treier went to be with the Lord after a stroke and brain cancer. Dan and I were college classmates and friends. We lost touch over the years, reconnected on FB about a decade ago, and met up in person for dinner in the spring of 2024. He was a wonderful person.

"It was Christ’s humble birth that set the stage. It was the first lesson in a series: to oppress others is to oppress Christ, to hate others is to hate Christ, and to love your enemies can be the most dangerous and revolutionary act of them all."
