MARATHONS Vs RUNS I’ve realized that many runs in Uganda are referred to as Marathons. Of course as a seasoned runner with Tens of Marathons and Ultra-Marathons around the globe; It disturbs me to see someone with a 5km run calling it a Marathon. For clarity; a marathon is a long-distance road race of exactly 42.195 kms (26 miles 385 yards). That distance is the official standard set by World Athletics (formerly the IAAF). The very first person to complete this distance 490 BC actually collapsed and died at end. So anyone can run, but not everyone can do a 42.195km Give it a shot @TheGuluMarathon on Dec 5, 2026!
