All three teams completed a 480-hour certification course, where they learned to track human scents and detect over 18 explosive odors, including firearms. As part of Region 13, they began patrolling the City of Pittsburgh this week.

A group of Pittsburgh Police recruits stopped by Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh on Monday with some treats for their four-legged neighbors on the North Side.
The recruits raised money to donate cat and dog food to the rescue before they graduate from the nearby Pittsburgh Police Training Academy this week.
They had an opportunity to meet one of the beneficiaries of their donation, a six-year-old female mixed breed named Nova who was recently surrendered when her owner became ill.
Nova was a huge hit and we BELIEVE she's still up for adoption, unless one of these soon-to-be officers caved in and took her home!
Visit humaneanimalrescue.org for more information.
UPDATE: Zachary has been located and he is safe. Thank you to everyone who shared the information.

Our team at the Office of Community Health & Safety (OCHS) recently collaborated with @PghMercy's Operation Safety Net for an impactful ride-along Downtown. Dr. Sarah Bertrand, a Street Medicine fellow, joined OCHS's Jaime Gribben-Mahoney and @PghPolice Officer Cleckley to work directly within the community.
The fellowship program is a partnership between UPMC Mercy and Pittsburgh Mercy's Operation Safety Net. Co-response initiatives like this provide critical infield training that fosters stronger relationship building and long-term systems change, while directly improving care and support for our community.
Officers visited students in grades K–2 at Dilworth Elementary in Highland Park yesterday as part of their ongoing Youth Connections initiative to build relationships with the youth.
The day included a reading session, a Q&A, and a visit from the Mounted Unit where children had the opportunity to pet the horses.
Thank you to everyone involved for making this day a great success for the students!
