It's janky, it looks like shit - but man will it make your asshole clench with the power of a thousand suns. You can play Hex Bots alone, but please, for the love of everything unholy, try it with someone else, like God himself intended. It's free, so you have no excuse.

Envelope is still making close to $200 almost every time I run a sale, over 2 years after release. I pretty much don't promote it anymore either. We had bad luck getting big streamers to play it, but somehow it still worked out.

Tim Sweeney is speedrunning a bad reputation. Makes me wonder if his company is on fire and he is desperately trying to save the remaining ashes like he did manage before. His name is going to leave a bad taste in our mouths for years. Fun to witness his downfall from the outside

Forcing developers to write a political statement to be used against them by the hate mob they’re helping organize is abhorrent.

Vibe coders acting as if making a game without AI is literally impossible after decades of people making games without AI.

Some AI bros have said that if this is the case, we should also have to disclose other tools we use. Alright, why not? I don't mind listing the tools I use, I already try to do that on itchio. People have a distaste for Unity, but I don't hide the fact that I use it.
Tim Sweeney is criticizing Valve again over Steam’s requirement for developers to disclose their use of generative AI. The Epic Games CEO called the policy “abhorrent,” arguing that developers are being forced to make a “political statement” that could be used against them by a “hate mob.” Sweeney has been criticizing the policy since 2025, previously comparing the disclosure to a “Scarlet Letter” and arguing that AI will eventually be part of almost every game production process.

If at some point the hate towards Unity is so big that I struggle to get sales, and I get a lot of hate (like people who use AI), I will simply have to accept it or use/make another engine. The market hates AI, so if you use AI you will get hate, and you will lose out on sales.

I don't understand how Tim Sweeney is fighting the market so hard, he has to know how the market works after building such a successful company? Makes me question what he had to do to get there 🤔

If art is gatekept by a so called elite, would it not be the same if AI becomes the norm? In any craft there is almost always only the top 1-10% who actually have success, because supply and demand doesn't allow everyone to be on top. The rest struggle to be seen.

You'll still be "gatekept", most AI artists would never be recognized. I'd say that way fewer would be recognized, as the speed which AI can generate images would likely create a tiny elite at the top who generates almost all art we see.

Of course this is all hypothetical, I don't believe it will become this way, I'm just responding to AI bro arguments.

I enjoy coding, I enjoy game design, I enjoy modeling, I enjoy putting it all together and see it come to life. I might be slow, and I might not be the best dev in existence, but I enjoy it. And I want to learn and improve. If I fall behind, so be it. This is not a race.

People have been doing things inefficiently since forever and still managed to find success. I think that hopping on every trend and having to readjust your workflow every 2 months because of a new AI release is just going to stunt your progress anyway.

Keep creating, keep learning. Make sure your brain stays healthy. Don't give in to the hype, at least wait until it settles down. The world usually doesn't change overnight, I don't really think this is any different.

You have no clue how many people got into game dev because of a little curiousity. "I like this game, maybe I can make something like this?" That's how I got started, and I was making online games and played them with my friends when I was like 13
Replying to @R6mezMedhat
No, they wouldn't have. Instead, they would be fired up for an hour or so, decide to make a game, Google how to make a game, get overwhelmed with information, and then give up and play Roblox or something.

Oh noooo
Hot take If you refuse to play games that use AI, you might as well stop playing Roblox altogether
