Compensatory evolution after evolving resistance well documented for bacteria and for malaria parasites - and I'm sure other instances - here described for candida auris as well.
Out now: Acquired amphotericin B resistance leads to fitness trade-offs that can be mitigated by compensatory evolution in Candida auris 🍄💊 @vandijcklab @CarolusHans @PatrickDijck

1/12 Here’s our review on Rethinking the Evidence on COVID in Africa. Thanks @Africarxiv for preprint. africarxiv.ubuntunet.net/han…. And a summary in a few tweets to follow. @wellcometrust funded work from @KEMRI_Wellcome
11/12 Pandemics are all different, this doesn’t help us predict outcomes for mpox, influenza or even other coronaviruses in Africa, but does warn us not to be complacent.
12/12 Policy in Africa needs to be guided by research in Africa. Investment in research centres in Africa pays returns. External models and external policy prescriptions less useful than real data. @JeremyFarrar @wellcometrust @KEMRI_Wellcome
