I remember the 1994 midterm elections very well.
Republicans gained 54 House seats and won the majority for the first time in 40 years.
It was a historic political transformation. And almost no one saw it coming.
One lesson I've never forgotten: Don't confuse political predictions with election results.
As we watch the 2026 midterms unfold tonight, I'll be looking for the larger lessons about where America is headed.

I went to the table to get my voting ballots.
Hat backwards, sunglasses on.
The worker asked for I.D.
I said (with a Hispanic accent) “I’m an illegal immigrant. I don’t have one”
Middle aged White Woman worker.
She was flabbergasted.
Looked like she’d seen a ghost. Speechless.
I took off the glasses and said “Just kidding”.
We had a good laugh.
She was relieved.
It was her first time ever working the polls.
