Mission work in the 21st century is a bad scene. Almost no one doing it has their own life & community under control. Itโs escapism.
I was at a church where they spent an entire service allowing this couple make a presentation about their 6 months doing mission work in some town in sub Saharan Africa. The typical little African town scenes and tropes - just so ridiculous. Meanwhile, their daughter is at home is in rehab for alcoholism and is suicidal. The story was gross.
I think itโs noteworthy that you canโt attend most modern churches and not know a lot about their missionaries and global missions programs, but you certainly can attend most modern churches without knowing much about their local ministry.
Youโll probably know that it exists, and it almost certainly does, but youโd have to take the initiative yourself to go and get involved.
Iโve found it rare that they push these opportunities to minister to people in your local community, but global missions is alwaysโฆ
