Africa is entering a decisive decade for ecosystem restoration. With over 700 million hectares degraded, restoration is no longer a peripheral concern—it is central to securing water, sustaining biodiversity, and supporting livelihoods across the continent.
To move beyond dialogue and toward coordinated, large-scale implementation, the Society for Ecological Restoration Africa Chapter (SER-AF) is convening the Africa Ecosystem Restoration Symposium from 12–16 October 2026 at 26 Degrees South Hotel, Muldersdrift.
This continental platform brings together researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to advance restoration science, practice, and policy where it matters most. It's time to implement at scale in ways that are scientifically grounded, socially inclusive, and institutionally embedded. 🌍🌱

Today's #AnimalofTheWeek is the Wattled Crane. This crane is Africa's tallest. The unique white skin flaps ("wattles") under its chin actually change size based on its mood—shrinking when nervous and expanding when excited. As a wetland-dependent species, protecting their habitat protects vital water sources for dozens of other species. #AfricanWildlife #WeAreSANBI
