After careful consideration, I have renounced my membership in the Academy for Health and Lifespan Research (@ahlresearch). I find it deeply distressing that we’ve gotten to a point where dishonesty in science is normalized to an extent that nobody is shocked when a tenured @Harvard professor falsely proclaims in a press release that a product he is selling to pet owners has “reversed aging in dogs”. To me, this is the textbook definition of snake oil salesman.
Perhaps I’m being naïve in expecting that scientists should be held to a higher standard. I went into a career in scientific research as an idealistic young man who wanted to make discoveries to improve the world and help people. That idealism still fuels me today, although much has been lost along the way and replaced by realism, which I strive to keep from becoming cynicism. I do believe we can and should demand, at a minimum, honesty and integrity from our scientific leaders.
I have renounced my membership in the Academy due to ongoing behavior by Academy President Dr. David Sinclair that I find both personally and professionally unacceptable. While I can’t control how others will behave, I choose not to associate with individuals or organizations that do not align with my core values.

If Physios used dynamometers to measure force, they would realize most of their patients improve their pain without gaining any strength via training.
They would also realize those who need strength are vastly underserved.
We say we are a “young profession” to excuse our bad science and our mistakes, but we are using therapies that existed before we developed a language. Our youngest founding father is Hippocrates, and he was here 2500 years ago, even before Aristotle proposed science.

This video is 27 minutes long with over 30 references. We're trying to raise the bar for YouTube videos and in-person clinical practice. And, as always, it's free without any intentional withholding of information to sell a product.
Hope the rehab world steps it up.

Was offered a Handling Editor position at a mainline journal with an annual compensation of $1,000.
A thousand bucks sounds good, but how much time will you spend on this job? Oh, plus taxes, don't forget that.
Also, this Journal charges authors $3k per article.
No thanks.

Right then here goes!!!
So I’ve just received this evening notification of another 3 complaints sent to the HCPC about more so called unprofessional behaviour online that they are ‘investigating’ yet again!
These complaints were all sent during the first week of my hearing in July and I think explains why my first hearing was postponed after 5 years of prolonged delays!
So unfortunately I think I’m just about done with the profession right now, and think I will now voluntarily deregulate myself from the HCPC and physiotherapy!
I just don’t think I can be bothered to fight anymore of these malicious and pathetic complaints from those I have criticised, offended, or upset in the past and deal with the HCPCs woeful drawn handling of them!
It really is mentally fatiguing and exhausting!
I also have a feeling that these complaints and investigations will never stop now unless I do this!
So for my own mental and physical health, and to allow me to say what I want, how I want, including my critique and criticism of the dogma and outdated thinking and people in this profession, I think that I have no choice but to find another path that allows me to honestly and simply help those in pain and disability!
It’s been a fun and emotional
20 year ride, and I hate the fact that I have to leave a profession I love and am passionate about under these circumstances!
But life goes on!
And to those that have submitted these complaints recently and in the past… Congrats… well played… you’ve got what you’ve wanted!
But believe me… you haven’t won the fight, there are still many more rounds left in me and I hope you have the stamina for it…
Because believe… I do!
See you on the other side!
