As part of the 2020 Nintendo Gigaleak, an email from Miyamoto to Rare was discovered outlining an idea for a change in Donkey Kong's character for his first fully 3D platforming game. This concept was ultimately scrapped, but the idea may have contributed to giving DK a weapon.

「Retro Gunner」をマイナーバージョンアップ。近々リリース予定です。
要望のあった撃ち込み音を実装できました。音色をどうするか迷いましたが、トーン系だと単体では綺麗でもBGMと被ると綺麗に鳴らないので、最終的にノイズ系に落ち着きました。
その他演出の細かいところも若干手を入れています。
