Mars is a freezing cold radiation-soaked desert with a paper-thin atmosphere and no oxygen. Also, no crypto-fascists. Wow it’s looking good.

Today I set up my Mastodon account and though it's certainly very early days, I’m loving it. It reminds me of Twitter circa 2008, and nothing at all of Twitter in 2022.

To be frank, I was already very disengaged from Twitter, and only check in here every so often to see what people I like are sharing. This probably won’t be my last tweet … but then again, it may be.
If you're looking at migrating to Mastodon, try movetodon.org Loads of your followers and people you follow will be there already. And to be visible to others, add your Mastodon handle to your profile.
The tone is very different: much less geared towards grabbing attention (which has been a big turnoff for me for years). I'm optimistic that in the absence of a needy algorithmic timeline that Mastodon will be a better space for real conversation and especially … nuance.
ChatGPT is a really scary robot.

Why do we call them "Black Friday Sales" in Australia now, given it's US slang? Here, Black Friday refers to the dreadful 13 January 1939 bushfires and has stood as a metaphor for the horrendous challenges of our country ever since. It's not commercial jargon ...

Did you know you can walk in your local Apple Store and they will recycle the old Apple hardware you bring? Don't put it in the bin 🗑️

Putin’s blunders in Ukraine are reminiscent of US stupidities in Vietnam and Iraq. And likely to end in the same scale of failure
