“We will not leave, we will not be driven out, we will not be scattered.” Hijazi Shawar al-Tamimi, an elderly Palestinian mukhtar from Hebron, speaks from his hospital bed after Israeli occupation army soldiers beat him as he tried to return to his besieged home in the Jaldeh area of the city. Al-Tamimi says he had seen an announcement that residents could go back to their homes, and walked in to collect his medication and baby formula for his family. He lives with diabetes and has nine stents in his heart. About 100 metres from his front door, soldiers surrounded him and told him entry was forbidden under a military order “until further notice.” When he asked for a written document stating that his house had been seized by military order, so he could challenge it before the Israeli Supreme Court, one soldier hurled obscenities at him. Others kicked him in the legs, chest and shoulders, and one struck him on the head before they forced him back. He says that if the court rules against him, he will dig a cave with his own hands on the land beside his house and live there with his wife and grandchildren. @alaraby_ar
