He didn’t even try to maintain some kind of relationship with me. He just disappeared from my life. And the part that still hurts the most is that, before all this happened, he wasn’t just some man who happened to live in our house. He was my best friend. My biological father died before I was even born, so the man who raised me was the only father I’d ever known. For 15 years, he was my dad in every way that mattered to me. Then a DNA test happened, and suddenly none of those years seemed to matter to him anymore. What’s even harder to accept is that he’s still the same dad to my younger siblings. He still shows up for them. He still gets to be their father. But with me? He won’t even have a casual relationship. Like, how do you spend 15 years raising a child, loving him, watching him grow up, and being the only father figure he’s ever had, then decide you want absolutely nothing to do with him because you found out he isn’t biologically yours? I understand that finding out my mom cheated on him must have been devastating. I understand that he probably felt betrayed in ways I can’t imagine. But I was 15.
