[7:27 AM CST 2/17] (2/4) Winter Storm UPDATE: Updated snowfall forecast as of early AM: Heaviest snowfall totals south of I-80 & especially south of Pontiac to Valpo line where near blizzard conditions may occur this aftn-early eve. Prepare for much slower PM commute. #ilwx #inwx

Here is a look at the rest of the week in our four day outlook. Brief warm up by midweek before a potent storm system arrives Wednesday afternoon. #ilwx #INwx

Here is a look at the timing of the highest snow rates, which could exceed an inch per hour at times, tonight into Wednesday. Note the snow chances will continue for some areas into Thursday. #ilwx #inwx

While it's been cold the past few days, the coldest temperatures and wind chills so far this winter in our area will be seen tonight and tomorrow morning. To avoid frostbite, limit your time outdoors, if possible, and dress in multiple layers from head to toe. #ilwx #inwx

Temperature Forecast: Once snow tapers on Sunday, temps will nosedive with wind chills Monday morning ranging from -5 to -15 F! In addition, ice will likely develop on area rivers with a threat for “freeze-up” ice jams on the Rock, Fox, and Kankakee rivers. #ilwx #inwx

Snowfall Forecast: A swath of 4 to 8 inches of snow is expected to fall across most of northern Illinois and northwestern Indiana with higher amounts across the Chicago metropolitan area. Gusty winds will also lead to blowing snow, especially after sunset Saturday. #ilwx #inwx

Expect yet another round of accumulating snow & travel impacts on Sunday. Significant amounts unlikely, but snow could come down heavy at times & will be a wetter snow than we've had the past few weeks. Overall higher amounts favored near & north of I-80. Stay tuned! #ilwx #inwx

[1:30 PM 2/15] Widespread steady, at times heavy, snowfall will continue to push north into the region through this afternoon & evening. Here is an approximate timing of when you can expect conditions to deteriorate (outside of ongoing lake effect). #ILwx #INwx

Lake effect snow starts Sun afternoon starting in NW IN, while wide-spread light snow starts Sun evening for other locations, with heaviest snow SE of I-55. Lake effect snow slowly shifts further east Sun night into Mon, including near the city of Chicago. #ilwx #inwx

[4:00 PM 2/11/2021] Bursts of heavy lake effect snow will continue across the NE Illinois shore. Sharply reduced visibilities and accumulating snow will likely cause hazardous travel for the PM commute for some. Use caution if traveling in this area this evening!

More accumulating snow is possible Friday PM into Saturday with an increasing potential for amounts > 2", especially along and north of I-80. The greatest potential for travel impacts would be Friday night into Saturday. Stay up to date with the latest forecast! #ILwx #INwx

Light snow will continue to expand in coverage across the area this morning. Amounts up to 2" are possible mainly south of I-80, and up to 1" to the north. Light snow accumulations could make for some slippery travel today before snow comes to an end this evening. #ILwx #INwx

Dangerously cold wind chills as cold as -30 degrees will persist through mid-morning in the wind chill advisory area over north central IL. Wind chills this cold can cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 20 minutes. Use caution if outside and dress warmly! #ilwx

More accumulating light snow today and tonight. Totals 1-2 inches with an isolated 3" possible by the time it ends later tonight. With our cold temps, snow sticks to pavement more quickly, so use caution on the roads especially for the PM commute. #ilwx #inwx
