Why do fans always call a knockout "fake" when a grazing shot catches someone on the temple or chin? Is it just rage-bait or do people really not know how Equilibrium shots work? 👇
People forget Abus has faked being knocked out cold before. Punch barely hit him and he does the stiff dab gimmick.

2 years ago today October 26, 2024 🥊 Lerone Murphy entered UFC 308 still unbeaten. Dan Ige had already spent years fighting ranked featherweights and was exactly the kind of veteran who could expose a contender. Murphy stayed composed. Sharp boxing. Good movement. Clean counters. Ige kept pressing, but Murphy kept finding enough of the better moments. Then came the scorecards. 29-28. 29-28. 29-28. Unanimous decision. Another experienced featherweight beaten. Murphy’s undefeated run had survived another serious test.

Between that Herb Dean compilation going around earlier and now Alex Pereira saying Herb stopped the Ciryl Gane fight too soon while Gane was gassing out, Herb can't stay out of the headlines. Do you think Herb Dean stopped Alex Pereira vs. Ciryl Gane too early, or was it the right call? 👇
Alex Pereira believes the result of his fight against Ciryl Gane would've been different if Herb Dean wasn't the referee: "[Gane] wore himself out badly there and couldn't knock me out. They stopped the fight and I was still standing. I wasn't on the ground. He was like 'I can't believe it. Thank God it's over.' You could see how heavily he was breathing." (via @connect_cast)

Having to fight Ciryl Gane and then Sergei Pavlovich at heavyweight is a brutal run for anyone. At least Alex Pereira is being completely honest about the size difference and his backup plan at 205. How do you see Alex Pereira vs. Sergei Pavlovich playing out. And should Poatan get an immediate title shot at 205 if he drops back down? 👇
🚨 Alex Pereira plans to move back down to 205 for an immediate title shot if he loses to Sergei Pavlovich: "Everyone knows I'm not as heavy as those heavyweights. I'm not going to stay there taking a beating with that disadvantage. I'd go back to my division, where I was already well adapted. It would be [straight] for the [light heavyweight] belt." Plot twist at lightweight: Arman Tsarukyan is waiting to hear by the end of November if Justin Gaethje will fight him. While Alexander Volkanovski just asked Dana White for Gaethje as his retirement superfight. 👀
Arman Tsarukyan accuses Justin Gaethje of ducking him and says the UFC must offer enough money to make the fight happen - or Gaethje could retire. “Someone is trying to duck me. Justin Gaethje. Now he's talking about retirement. Either UFC is going to pay him so much money that he's going to fight, or he's just going to retire. They told me they're going to let me know at the end of November.” via @HelenYeeSports

Dana White said at the UFC 333 press conference that Islam didn't give a reason for skipping January. And now Islam lays it right out: Prates lost to Ian Garry (whom Islam already beat), while undefeated Michael Morales was sitting waiting. Now that you've heard both sides, who do you agree with here: Islam Makhachev or Dana White? 👇
🚨 Islam Makhachev explains why he turned down the Carlos Prates fight in January "They offered me a fight with Prates, who recently lost to [Ian Garry], someone I beat. If I beat him, Morales would already be next in line, who's not fighting and waiting for [a title shot]. Just let them fight and we will figure out who's the real challenger." (via pound4padel/IG)

2 years ago today October 26, 2024 🥊 Shara Magomedov had already built a reputation for unusual striking. Against Armen Petrosyan, he produced something that looked like it belonged in a video game. Late in Round 2, Petrosyan was trapped near the fence. Shara spun. Backfist. Then spun again. Another backfist. The combination landed and Petrosyan went down. A double-spinning-backfist knockout. You can watch thousands of MMA fights and barely ever see anything like it. It immediately became one of the most replayed UFC finishes of 2024.

For normal people a split lip like that is a trip to urgent care, and for Dan Hooker it's just a normal morning at City Kickboxing. 😬 Dan Hooker doesn't even know how to go light in the gym. The Hangman is always ready for a war. 🔥

2 years ago today October 26, 2024 🥋 Robert Whittaker had been UFC middleweight champion and had fought almost every elite name in the division. Khamzat Chimaev made him look helpless. The opening bell rang. Chimaev shot immediately. Whittaker went down. A few minutes later, Chimaev had a face crank locked in. Whittaker tapped at 3:34 of Round 1. That was it. One of the biggest wins of Chimaev’s career. And because it came against a former champion still near the top of the division, the result pushed him directly toward a middleweight title shot.

2 years ago today October 26, 2024 🏆 Max Holloway had been fighting elite competition for more than a decade. Jose Aldo could not knock him out. Dustin Poirier could not knock him out. Justin Gaethje could not knock him out. Nobody had. Then he fought Ilia Topuria. In Round 3, Topuria hurt Holloway with his hands, dropped him and finished the fight with punches. Official time: 1:34. Max Holloway had been knocked out for the first time in his career. And Topuria had done it in his first featherweight title defense. A historic statement from the new champion.

When a former champion like Sean O'Malley admits that watching Petr Yan beat Merab Dvalishvili gave him nerves just sitting on the couch, you know Yan looked terrifying at UFC 333. Say what you want about Suga, admitting that an opponent gives you the kind of nerves that make you train harder is the most honest compliment one fighter can give another. 🤝

Daniel Cormier reading this #UFC333 Fighters calling out Daniel Cormier's commentary after a card is almost a post-fight tradition at this point. Do you like Daniel Cormier on the UFC commentary desk, or do you agree with Dominick Reyes here?
Real talk, who actually likes hearing low iq hater ass DC?!

1 year ago today October 25, 2025 🥊 Mizuki had not fought in more than two years. Jaqueline Amorim had won four straight and looked ready to break into the rankings. The returning veteran spoiled the plan. Amorim had early grappling success. Mizuki adjusted. Started landing in close. Uppercuts. Knees. Pressure. Three rounds later: 30-27. 30-27. 29-28. Unanimous decision. Long layoff over. Four-fight winning streak stopped. Mizuki returned and immediately reminded the strawweight division how difficult she was to deal with.

1 year ago today October 25, 2025 🥊 Quillan Salkilld did not need the main card to make people remember his name at UFC 321. Nasrat Haqparast was the veteran standing across from him. Halfway through Round 1, Salkilld found the opening. Head kick. Clean. Haqparast went down. Official time: 2:30. One of the nastiest finishes of the prelims — and the kind of knockout that can change how quickly the UFC starts moving a prospect up the ladder.

Saying "it would've been too easy if I wasn't sick" after beating an undefeated contender like Movsar Evloev is a different level of championship mentality. 👑 Notice how Volk never breathes a word about being sick until after his hand is raised. Zero excuses, just shows up and gets the job done.
🚨 Alexander Volkanovski reveals he was sick when he fought Movsar Evloev today 🤒 "It's all good, it's a part of the game. I started getting sick, I was like 'it would've been too easy if I wasn't sick.' No matter what hurdles are in front of me, this sh*t excites me."
