𝟗𝟓𝟎 𝐄𝐰𝐞 𝐇𝐨𝐠𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐬 𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐎𝐧 𝐅𝐚𝐫𝐦 950 ewe hoggets sold today to a long-term ewe buyer for $365 per head on farm. At 14 months of age they averaged 51 kg after a 9-hour curfew, equivalent to 77% of standard reference weight, and will be ready to join on 1st October. These ewe hoggets cut $89 in wool income from 8.5 months' growth and have grown well through a very tough 14-month period. A further 1,700 ewe hoggets from the same drop have been retained and will form a significant part of the program next year. A strong result, backed by the predictability of the P/GK genetics, and a good reflection of the productive, commercially relevant genotype we are aiming to breed. The ewe portion of the drop is tested at 8.5 months’ wool growth in July at 13 months of age. We double down by testing them again at 18 months, in April. This additional data helps improve the accuracy of AFD and ACFW ASBVs and sets us apart from most ram breeders in the data base. Giving us as a supplier and our clients increased confidence, that the breeding values we are selecting on have the highest level of accuracy. At P/GK, we put more emphasis on breeding values than raw test results, as raw measurements can be heavily influenced by management, birth type and seasonal conditions. That said, the results are solid. The 2025-drop sale rams have tested at an average: 16 micron 2.6 SD 16 CV 99.7% comfort factor With a staple length of 66mm and staple strength of 59 N/ktex, at 11.5 months of age and with six months of wool growth. P/GK wool has consistently attracted a premium at auction and this is why.
