Two women tried to steal thousands of dollars from college students in Florida, until Postal Inspectors stopped them.
Miami Division Postal Inspectors were contacted about missing money from the Florida Prepaid College Program, which is meant to help families pay for students’ college tuition and fees. During the investigation, the inspectors discovered that two contractors who worked for the program, Julie Schuler and Taylor Bradham, had created a scheme to steal the funds.
Schuler and Bradham used their official roles to fraudulently take control of the investment accounts. After gaining ownership, they closed the accounts to generate a refund check, which they mailed to themselves or to addresses they designated.
Once the checks were delivered, both women and their associates would cash or deposit the checks into bank accounts they controlled. Shuler and Bradham stole or attempted to steal nearly $86,000 in Florida Prepaid College Program funds.
Both women were arrested and pleaded guilty to mail fraud and aggravated identity theft. Schuler was sentenced to three years in federal prison, and Bradham was sentenced to seven months. Both women were also given 3 years of supervised release following their sentences and ordered to pay restitution.

He’s fishing through a public USPS collection box — the one where people drop outgoing mail — looking for checks, cash, and personal info. Broad daylight. On a moped.
