The Left's latest marching orders from the hivemind HQ have obviously arrived, fresh with accusations that "You care more about old buildings than people." And we can thank them for broaching such a question, after all, what a timely moment - in the shadow of Limoges and the bell tower's beautiful clock face that is no longer with us. A fine moment for a reality check, indeed. Is a looter in a demented clown mask waving a Molotov cocktail more valuable than Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa? Is a rioter, a bandit, a thug worth more than the dignity of the elderly they strip bare in the street as they rob them? The correct riposte to the Left's usual mixture of denial, dissembling and excuses for their wanton destruction of beautiful things is to tackle their arrogant and overbearing sense of entitlement head on. You are not more important than the Louvre. You are not more important than the Mona Lisa. You are not worth more than the beautiful bell tower of Limoges. Inside the town hall, above the fireplace where young couples would tie the knot, lay a message from our forebears. It's a message from the past, a message the looters have snatched away from us, a message we can no longer see for ourselves except in history books. “Ubi fides, ibi amor” — “Where there is faith, there is love.” By their actions, they have destroyed an outstretched hand - one that symbolises togetherness and faith across time. In fact the swatting away of a hand outstretched in good faith reminds me of Charlie Kirk, but I digress. So to return to the accusation in hand, do we care more about old buildings than people, as well as the moralising, pitiless hypocrites who make such accusations? Well, mes chers amis, it depends on the building and it depends on the monsters who took it from us.
