Why don't pastors appear "confident, masculine & authoritative" like those darn online influencers? Perhaps because most pastors are ashamed of parts of God's Word. No better way to appear pusillanimous than constantly trying to sand the rough edges off your subject matter.
NEW HORIZONS FEATURE | Where are the Young Men? by Rev. Everett Henes In Christian circles, many wonder how to reach young men in a digital age, and how to encourage them to consider ministry. Rev. Everett Henes contributes to the conversation in this month's New Horizons. Read the full article here: opc.org/nh.html?article_id=1…

Gouge and so many others did such an excellent job with this... a husbands duties are many, and include Vision - he should have a vision for himself and his household. They are not the same as everyone else - they do not have the same resources, opportunities, gifts, or goals. Provision - this is far more than financial, but also is not less than financial. Instruction - he is to instruct his wife and children in both spiritual and temporal matters of life (see book of Proverbs among others) Protection - he is responsible for their wellbeing. This includes how they eat and live, exercise, activity, social things, and much more. Future - he has duties to help his son's find vocation, his daughters to become suitable candidates for a good man, and helping both his sons and daughters find spouses. Could list a great dael more here, but it's a good start.

I follow all your pages and I’m trying to be a Titus 2 biblical wife. What are a husband’s duties? Because the “love your wife like Christ loves the church” is pretty much the only message I see. Not that I’ll relay it to him (win over without a word).

Proverbs 14:4 says,“Where no oxen are, the trough is clean; but much increase comes by the strength of an ox.” The principle is one of investment. Worthwhile things require work, but work brings rewards. Replace oxen with spouses, children, or friends. Do you want a clean trough, or the reward that comes from cleaning the trough?

"A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown, among his relatives, and in his household" applies to marriage. Many wives will doubt from their husband what they'd accept from others. That's why it's critical for other authorities to tell women "no" alongside husbands.

One of the big problems with this is that the local church is primarily for the believer. Evangelism is certainly an important aspect of the church, but not the primary function. We also see the dangers of this as many modern churches have compromised on their convictions to attract as many unbelievers as possible. This can be seen in Keller's famous anecdotal story here warhornmedia.com/2022/01/17/… Where he did not speak on abortion from the pulpit so as not to push "moralism" before Christ. The obvious problem with this is that: 1. You are not being a prophetic witness against a heinous evil in our society 2. How will people repent if you don't help them understand that they are great sinners in need of a great savior? This is done by pointing out specific sins and not just a general pronouncement of vague "sinfulness." One cannot repent unless one is convicted of their own sin.
The PCA must resist the ease and appeal of planting churches that primarily attract Christians looking for a Presbyterian and Reformed church as opposed to planting churches that reach non-Christians who are converted and formed to be P&R.

Boomers just got a 3.6% inflation adjusted raise in social security benefits Meanwhile everyone else just had the 6th straight month of negative real earnings Despite this all you will hear about is how tough 'fixed income' is for boomers while we're literally getting poorer

Not going because I’m tired of spending one-and-a-half hours of my day to be seen for 10 minutes to be told to go see 3 other doctors who can’t be seen until 3 months out and then will take one-and-a-half hours of my day to be seen 10 minutes to tell me to take more tests and medicine I don’t need because they actually don’t want to keep me healthy.
I’m not sure that’s why we quit.

The death penalty is so self-evidently moral that it leads me to question the moral calculus of anyone who disagrees.
The death penalty is inadmissible because it is an attack on the inviolability and dignity of the person. The common good can be safeguarded and the requirements of justice can be met without recourse to capital punishment: effective systems of detention have been developed that protect citizens while at the same time do not completely deprive those who are guilty of the possibility of redemption. #NoDeathPenalty

Dispensationalism is dying as a real theological system. Good. What’s left is mostly a leftover mood among older evangelicals who grew up on rapture sermons, prophecy charts, and Left Behind. The academic version has been fading for decades. Daniel Hummel’s The Rise and Fall of Dispensationalism makes the case pretty clearly: by the early 2000s the scholarly movement had few national leaders, few young specialists, and almost no internal cohesion. The institutional signs are hard to miss. The Evangelical Free Church dropped “premillennial” from its statement of faith in 2019 by a 79% vote and treated it as a non-essential. Schools with dispensational roots like Biola, Gordon, Multnomah, and Trinity International largely stopped requiring the system. Southern Baptist academic leadership started shifting toward covenantal or mixed views in the 1990s. Dallas Theological Seminary is still there, but even it softened the old Israel/Church split through progressive dispensationalism. There were no real theological heirs to Hal Lindsey or Tim LaHaye. Popular paperback preachers hung around. The pipeline of serious scholars has thankfully changed. A lot of evangelicals never even learned the word “dispensationalism.” They just absorbed rapture plus Israel plus “we’re in the last days” from church, radio, and paperback prophecy. That residue is still strong among people formed in the 1970s through the 2000s. Among the young, it is notably weaker. Like all fads it's death day will come and not soon enough. One comparison floating around the discussion: premillennial identification among evangelicals 18–29 is at 21%, versus a 2011 NAE report that 65% of evangelicals overall were premillennial. The surveys are not identical, but the generational drop is obvious. Support for “modern Israel fulfills prophecy” has also fallen among evangelicals under 30, with more of them moving toward amillennial or postmillennial readings, or just not caring about the charts. Younger evangelicals are spreading toward Reformed and amillennial theology, postmillennial or NAR-style kingdom-now activism, Catholic and Orthodox retrieval, or plain indifference. That is a healthier mix than another generation raised to treat newspaper headlines like a second Bible. The fragments of course remain tragically. Many brilliant minds and great saints are still entangled in its swamp of sadness like Artax or have it's lingering residue like industrial tar. but it is so deeply ingrained that every step even thinking to get out of it feels like fighting quicksand. End-times paperbacks still sell. “We are in the last days” still polls well. But classic dispensationalism as a taught system is dying out. The leftover rapture-and-Israel package is aging out. Recent energy has gone to Reformed retrieval and dominionism, not a Scofield revival. That decline is overdue.

Not only is it morally correct to execute our worst criminals, it’s a load-bearing pillar of society
I don’t disagree with this. However, our society shouldn’t use the death penalty if we have other means of ensuring that evil & dangerous people no longer have access or the opportunity to harm to others.

You pay taxes to cover welfare for people who just choose not to work. That’s why I launched a welfare-to-work requirement. If you’re young, healthy, and get government assistance, you should work, go to school, or volunteer.

Matthew Henry on the duty of women to be silent in the church, and the man’s duty to keep up his superiority: “As it is the woman’s duty to learn in subjection, it is the man’s duty to keep up his superiority, by being able to instruct her; if it be her duty to ask her husband at home, it is his concern and duty to endeavor at least to be able to answer her inquiries; if it be a shame for her to speak in the church, where she should be silent, it is a shame for him to be silent when he should speak, and not be able to give an answer, when she asks him at home.”
