You can repeal the law but the fundamental right to privacy still remains and we have already seen how the Delhi HC has weaponised it against the media.
Now even legacy media is challenging the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act which severely weakens people’s right to information and curtails press freedom. The petition terms the provisions of the Act as “pre-censorship which is anathema to any democracy”. The DPDP Act in its current form should be repealed!

Its heartbreaking to witness the descent of Andhra Pradesh in to a haven for goons, thugs and antisocial elements. This is the result of state-capture by two family-owned parties that have between them have been trying to restore medieval style feudalism in what was once one of the most progressive states of India. Key governance institutions have been poisoned by casteism, cronyism, corruption, toxic politicisation, etc. Politics has become the exclusive domain of contractors, mining dons, education and health czars, liquor contractors, pairavikars, goons, with the police acting as the private militia of the party in power. When political parties see each other as enemies to be annihilated, and elections are nothing but a war to be fought with weapons and cash, it cannot be characterised as democracy. Its demonocracy! The #SEC conducting the local body elections was the same gentleman removed by the @ECISVEEP as the chief secretary of AP in 2019! It would be a pipe dream to expect free and fair elections in the state. In more than one way, Andhra Pradesh is showing the way for rest of India to emulate, in the most decadent way, despite the pronouncements of AI, Quantum, World Class City, etc. I appeal to the people of Andhra Pradesh to recognise the reality and put an end to this criminal enterprise by not voting for either @YSRCParty or the #NDA alliance - @JaiTDP @JanaSenaParty @BJP4Andhra. Vote for any other public spirited contestant, if any. Do not sell your vote, its priceless. #AndhraPradesh #LocalBodyElections2026
As if the credibility crisis of ECI isn't already bad enough, in NDA-ruled Andhra Pradesh poll process for local body polls has been reduced to a violent joke. Candidates, largely from Opposition YSRCP, blocked, papers snatched away as police stand by. Women candidates have been attacked. A TDP MLA is caught on camera calling on his cadres to “break the legs” of those coming to file nominations. thesouthfirst.com/andhraprad…

I hope the petitioners insist on production of the entire record from the ECI before any oral arguments commence.
I’ve absolutely no doubt that the SC will permit itself being hoodwinked, one more time. With suppression of documents, deception and bad faith legal manoeuvres. What about you ?

At least 61,059 Form-7 applications seeking the deletion of names from Karnataka’s electoral rolls were filed by election officials themselves, with not a single application mentioning a reason for the deletion, a mandatory requirement under the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960. ✍️@pon_vasanth and @rishitaakhanna thehindu.com/news/national/k…

Will capping trade margins on 137 #cancer drugs actually lower #medical bills? My recent story in @timesofindia examines the risk that #hospitals could offset lower #drug margins with higher charges for diagnostics, consumables or procedures. Lower drug prices don’t automatically mean cheaper cancer care. The move requires strict monitoring & implementation across all stakeholders. #patients #healthcare #health

But who are the worthies on this "working group"? Not a single name in this report.
The Working Group on Access to Medicines and Treatments has raised concerns over including Dr. Naresh Trehan, chairman and managing director of Medanta, in a committee constituted on the Supreme Court’s directions to examine the regulatory framework governing pharmaceutical marketing practices. ✍️@BShajan thehindu.com/sci-tech/health…

Except Article 131 requires all centre-state disputes to be heard by the Supreme Court. This provision dates back to the GoI Act, 1935. The cause title in this case is State of Maharashtra v. Union of India, and the dispute pertains to a union law.
All central laws are subject to Writ Jurisdiction of High Court and the Supreme Court. Merely because it's a Central Government enactment does not make it a Centre State dispute giving exclusive jurisdiction to the Supreme court. Any High Court can strike down any law as unconstitutional and it will be considered struck down throughout the country, as held by Supreme Court in Kusum Ingots & Alloys Ltd. v. Union of India [(2004) 6 SCC 254. Section 377 of IPC was first struck down by Delhi High Court. Section 309 IPC was struck by Bombay High Court. Vide the 42nd Amendment, Article 226A was inserted in Constitution of India which ousted the Writ Jurisdiction of High Court over central Government Legislations, however, it was deleted by the 43rd Amendment.

Before the next elections, INC should announce that it will appoint Justice Muralidhar to head a Commission of Inquiry into judicial appointments and transfers during the Modi years.

So true....
It's amazing how they sold us the idea of Doval cultivating Dhurandhars from prisons to carry out prolonged cross-border espionage operations but the closest thing to that irl is probably Lawrence Bishnoi who has been terrorising the same industry that danced around Dhurandhar.

The govt. needs to start publishing these S. 163 orders in the Delhi Police Gazette or better still in newspapers.
I’m almost certain @DelhiPolice is walking around with this poster in their pocket and “imposing” s.163 BNSS anywhere protestors begin to gather. And then they use it to detain us brutally. At Bangla Sahib today, not a single policeman could show us the 163 order when asked.

First they create fear, detain protestors, smash bones, throw leaders in jail, book some under UAPA, install CCTVs, monitor social media, victimize dissenters, harass cartoonists, call the bulldozers - then they ask, "if so many voters are excluded, why are they not protesting"?
