We're seeing a lot of decommitments in college baseball. I think it's important to understand WHY. This didn't happen overnight. Follow the dominoes. 👇 2020: COVID. The NCAA grants spring athletes an additional year of eligibility. Players stay in college longer. Rosters get older. Opportunities for incoming freshmen become more competitive. Then the professional pipeline changes. MLB cuts its draft from 40 rounds to 20. Affiliated minor league teams shrink from 162 to 120. Fewer traditional opportunities to enter professional baseball. Now look at the roster math. Before COVID, D1 baseball operated with a 35-man roster limit. During the eligibility crunch, temporary allowances eventually expanded rosters to 40 players. Beginning in 2025-26, programs participating in the House settlement moved to a 34-man roster limit, with exceptions for certain players. That's SIX fewer standard roster spots compared to the temporary 40-man allowance. Now add the transfer portal. Nearly 2,700 D1 baseball players entered the portal during the June 2026 window alone. Programs have access to thousands of experienced college players competing for opportunities. Throw in NIL, revenue sharing, and the shift from the old 11.7-scholarship model to the possibility of funding scholarships across all 34 roster spots at participating programs. And now the NCAA's new age-based eligibility model can allow qualifying athletes up to FIVE years of competition within a continuous five-year window, replacing the traditional four-seasons-in-five-years model. Think about what all of this means. A college coach can genuinely believe in a high school prospect when he commits. But by the time that player arrives on campus, the roster, budget, available transfer talent, and immediate needs of the program could look completely different. College baseball has become an increasingly competitive roster-management business. And the pressure to WIN NOW is real. Does that excuse every decommitment? Absolutely not. But I also don't believe every decommitment represents a lack of loyalty. Here's what concerns me most. We're asking teenagers and their families to make decisions about their futures in a system that can change dramatically before they ever step foot on campus. The rules changed. The economics changed. The roster math changed. But the hopes and dreams of those kids haven't. And somewhere in the middle of all this change, we cannot lose sight of the people affected by it. @prepbaseball

I remember @ShooterHunt coming to the 2016 Future Games with me and his brother, @TJHUNT_PBRNJ. Back then, the Future Games were held at @GrandParkSports in Indiana. Shooter wasn’t there with a title. He was there to help. Throw BP. Help with New York and New Jersey. Interact with the players. Watch. Listen. Learn. Take the entire event in. And over the course of those few days, he made an immediate impression on our national staff. Not because he was trying to. Because you could see it. The baseball knowledge. The look of a 1st rounder (which he was). The work ethic. The ability to connect with people. The genuine passion for players and the game. Two months later, Prep Baseball hired him. That was 10 years ago. Since then, Shooter has become one of the most recognizable and respected voices in amateur baseball scouting - impacting players, coaches, scouts and our company along the way. Pretty incredible to think it traces back to a guy showing up in Indiana, willing to help wherever he was needed. There’s a lesson in that. You never know which opportunity will change the trajectory of your life. Show up. Add value. Be good to people. Do the work in front of you. Sometimes the biggest opportunities in your life don’t look very big when they first arrive. 10 years later, the rest is history. 🔨⚾️ 👏👇
This is a @ShooterHunt appreciation tweet 🫶 10 months traveling all across the country, evaluating players and building toward what became our best All-American Game to date. The last guy to ever ask for attention, but the work he puts in deserves to be recognized. 👊 (Sorry, Shooter - I had to)

FALL ⚾️ IN THE NORTHEAST. 🍂 Pennsylvania. New York. New Jersey. New England. One region. A full fall of opportunities. Over the next two months, @PrepBaseball will be everywhere bringing our scouting, technology, coverage and national platform to players throughout the Northeast. Fall Games. Fall IDs. Top Prospect Games. Academic Games. Freshman events. Scout Days. Different events. Different locations. One standard. Our goal is simple: Create opportunities for players to COMPETE. Give players an opportunity to BE SEEN. Identify the next wave of talent across the region. The summer may be over… ...BUT the fall is just getting started. See you at the field. ⚾️🫡 @JoeWalentin | @harryweiss_ | @MLaurentinoBB | @NathanGoranson | @jonahwachter1

Baseball will break your confidence if you let it. Two rules to stay sane in a game of failure: Don't put it on a pedestal. It’s a game. Learn from the adversity, then FLUSH IT. 🚽 Never let a speedbump turn into a roadblock. Short memory = long career. 💯

HS Baseball Players ⚾️👇 Someone else’s commitment is NOT your rejection. One thing I’ve learned through my years with @PrepBaseball: Players emerge at different times. Some commit early. Some develop later. Some need another summer. Some simply haven’t found the right opportunity yet. Celebrate your teammates. Then put the phone down and get back to work. Comparison will convince you that you’re behind. You’re NOT behind. You’re on YOUR timeline. Keep developing. Keep competing. Keep putting yourself in position to be seen. Your opportunity doesn’t disappear because someone else received theirs first. ⚾️

“If you’re good enough, college coaches will find you.” One of the biggest lies in amateur sports. Coaches can’t evaluate a player they don’t know exists. Talent absolutely matters. But so do visibility, timing, relationships, information, and performing in the right places. You don’t need to attend every event. You don’t need to play all over the country. You don’t need to over-promote yourself either. But you do need a plan. Because coaches can’t find you if you’re hidden, regardless of how talented you are. Talent creates the opportunity. Visibility gives talent a chance to be discovered. ⚾️👍
