there is immense collective value in supporting each other and absolutely none in tearing others down.
when we refuse to see others as rivals but instead as friends, we grow and learn from each other, which then makes us better creatives and opens doors to more opportunities.

I feel other artists should treat each as potential friends/allies in the market rather than as explicit enemies/competitors. Networking helps a lot.

A friendly reminder to amateur artists who want to succeed: QRTing professionals with โthey charge THIS much while I charge 20$ for 2 weeks of work!!!โ is NOT a flex you think it is and if youโll keep such mindset youโll never be able to get big. Itโs okay to have art as a hobby but if you want to make it your career, stop disrespecting professionals AND yourself

Illustration cost a lot because it adds a lot of value to products in a marketplace.
Having the right art on your book, card game, etc can worth a LOT of money.
Thatโs why companies pay $10,000 for a jpeg.
every now and again I see absolutely deranged discourse on how much an artist should be charging for their work.
the shittiest part is seeing SO MANY aspiring artists joining in on the dogpile & saying they undercharge themselves as some kind of flex?? bro this is so embarassing
Speaking from personal experience, I have permanently blacklisted artists who bullied and harassed me as a kid when I was just starting out.
I have since crossed paths with some of them IN PERSON multiple times at events. You need to understand just how small the industry is.

This should have been a moment for the community to reflect on their own rates and realize they are most likely underpricing their work instead of dunking on someone who has been setting their commission rate however they see fit for them.
We can be better, we need to be better.

twitter used to be THE primary place for networking akin to a freelancer LinkdIn and getting cooperate gigs for many artists, but now its become a place where beginners devalue the own work and non-artists bitching about prices. twitter is not artist friendly anymore

To this day, itโs still taboo for art to be commercial. People basically expect it to be free. But never doubt your worth. Years of experience and trial and error have gone into making it, so you can price it at whatever youโre comfortable with. In fact, Iโve seen that the higher the price, the more it sells. Itโs just a loud minority who complains, and they wouldnโt buy it even if it cost a few bucks.

What an awful time to be an artist online holy fuck.

iโve said this before but the constant commission discourse just reeks of jealousy and lack of confidence

man the whole dogpile on chainsawroll and the one on loish before were both so fucking dumb i kind of have to believe they were botted to some extent because it sucks more to believe that people are just that fucking dumb and willfully ignorant about tearing down artists

Seeing younger artists, artists my age, promoting themselves on the back of an unfair wave of hate directed at another artist already integrated into the industry and just thinking "are you guys stupid??"
Seeing aspiring artists attack a well respected and established illustrator is doing so much harm to their careers and they donโt even know.
Being a good artist is half the job.
Being someone people want to work with is the other half.
When those who hire see you tearing down other artists for their prices and then accusing them of AI, we blacklist you. You reveal your red flags.
Art is a community. Tearing down others is not how you get ahead. In life or art.
