Actually, anyone can get to know @POTUS really well simply by reading all of his books. He’s authored an astonishing number of them. I love how President Trump writes exactly like he talks—I can almost hear his voice as I turn the pages. I’m about halfway through reading them in sequential order (I’ve included a photo of my favorite thus far). I suggest doing the same as the context of the year he’s writing is especially interesting in some of the ways his thoughts have been fined-tuned. And one gets an idea of when his celebrity ā€œfriendsā€ stabbed him in the back—not that he specifically details any of that but rather how he loyally mentions them while the reader knows those friendships end years later. For as loyal of a person as he is, he surely didn’t reap what he sowed in that regard. Notice I didn’t say that DJT’s way of thinking, personality, or his approach has evolved. On the contrary. That’s been a key takeaway: He’s essentially been the same person for 50+ years. I thought I knew a lot about him previously, but what I’ve learned is the secret to his success and how he’s weathered the many storms in his life is by combining an unshakable positive attitude along with his innate inner drive. The net result is that he never gives up. Not ever. A lesser known fact about President Trump is that he doesn’t negotiate in the manner most expect: Rather than hammering the other side, he employs a much more measured, extraordinarily prepared, and quieter technique that often results in both sides walking away feeling content. He’s never taken any slight lying down, mind you. DJT had in his youth the same fiery reactions and toughness that are still seen current day. Reading his books reminded me how astonishingly little credit he’s given for his abundant generosity…he was charitable long before he was a household name and prior to becoming very wealthy. Since I’ve been reading President Trump’s books, I’ve become a more focused and upbeat person despite not realizing I needed that coaching. This has happened in just the span of a few weeks! I’m also more motivated and find myself taking his ā€œmake it happen in your lifeā€ themed advice to heart. No self-help or motivational book has ever had such an impact on me. I find myself wanting to start a business…or 10! Ha!
This is one of the most important moments ever aired on CNBC. Billionaire investor Chamath Palihapitiya says the media lied to millions of Americans about President Trump, and that after going back to the original source material, he realized he had been completely misled about Trump’s character. PALIHAPITIYA: ā€œThe reality is that most of us were lied to by the media about President Trump.ā€ ā€œAnd if you just go back to the source material, you should take away two things.ā€ ā€œOne, he didn’t say half the things he said, and two, why did these other people just fabricate what they wanted to say so that they could essentially assassinate his character?ā€ ā€œI think that that second thing is completely unacceptable in America, and there’s still been no repercussions, really.ā€ ā€œI took the time to learn about it. I admitted where…you know, the way that I met him was, I admitted on the pod, which, you know, has millions of viewers.ā€ ā€œAnd I said, I got it totally wrong because I went and I watched Charlottesville.ā€ ā€œAnd, you know, the first person to call me? President Trump.ā€ ā€œAnd I got to know him and I put the phone down, I called my wife, and I said, we got it TOTALLY, totally wrong. We were lied to.ā€ ā€œAnd then I got to know him and he is fantastic!ā€ @chamath

HISTORY LESSON ON YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY CARD: Just in case some of you young whippersnappers (& some older ones) didn’t know this. It’s easy to check out, if you don’t believe it. Be sure and show it to your family and friends. They need a little history lesson on what’s what and it doesn’t matter whether you are Democrat or Republican. Facts are FACTS. Up until the 1980's, Social Security cards expressly stated the number and card were not to be used for identification purposes. Since nearly everyone in the United States now has a number, it became convenient to use it anyway and the "NOT FOR IDENTIFICATION" message was removed. Franklin Roosevelt, a Democrat, introduced the Social Security (FICA) Program. His promises are in black, with updates in brackets. 1.) That participation in the Program would be completely voluntary [No longer voluntary], 2.) That the participants would only have to pay 1% of the first $1,400 of their annual Incomes into the Program [Now 7.65% on the first $90,000, and 15% on the first $90,000 if you’re self-employed], 3.) That the money the participants elected to put into the Program would be deductible from their income for tax purposes each year [No longer tax deductible], 4.) That the money the participants put into the independent ā€˜Trust Fund’ rather than into the general operating fund, and therefore, would only be used to fund the Social Security Retirement Program, and no other Government program [Under Johnson the money was moved to the General Fund and spent], and 5.) That the annuity payments to the retirees would never be taxed as income [Under Clinton & Gore up to 85% of your Social Security can be taxed]. Since many of us have paid into FICA for years and are now receiving a Social Security check every month — and then finding that we are getting taxed on 85% of the money we paid to the Federal government to ā€˜put away’ — you may be interested in the following: Q: Which Political Party took Social Security from the independent ā€˜Trust Fund’ and put it into the general fund so that Congress could spend it? A: It was Lyndon Johnson and the democratically controlled House and Senate. Q: Which Political Party eliminated the income tax deduction for Social Security (FICA) withholding? A: The Democratic Party. Q: Which Political Party started taxing Social Security annuities? A: The Democratic Party, with Al Gore casting the ā€˜tie-breaking’ deciding vote as President of the Senate, while he was Vice President of the US AND MY FAVORITE: Q: Which Political Party decided to start giving annuity payments to immigrants? A: That’s right! Jimmy Carter and the Democratic Party. Immigrants moved into this country, and at age 65, began to receive Social Security payments! The Democratic Party gave these payments to them, even though they never paid a dime into it! Now, after violating the original contract (FICA), the Democrats turn around and tell you that the Republicans want to take your Social Security away! And the worst part about it is uninformed citizens believe it! If enough people receive this, maybe a seed of awareness will be planted and maybe changes will evolve. Maybe not, though. Some Democrats are awfully sure of what isn’t so — but it’s worth a try.

Let me start with screw the @washingtonpost they are crap journalists. These are hospital-owned clinics. The hospital controls the billing and collects the facility fee. Yet the Washington Post puts ā€œdoctors’ officesā€ in the headline, leaving readers with the impression that their physician is behind the markup. Misleading BS Patients deserve to know who sets these charges and who collects the money. If the hospital is charging the fee, put the hospital in the headline. Physicians shouldn’t have to answer for a billing policy their employer controls. washingtonpost.com/business/…

As physicians we have taken an oath. To put the patient first. To act in their best interest. To uphold the highest ethical standards. The people running insurance and pharmaceutical companies have not taken the same oath. They care most about making profits for their shareholders. Yet, their business decisions affect how we practice medicine. Therein lies the problem.

I’ve spent a few days thinking about the Tesla Roadster reveal and landed somewhere I haven’t seen much discussion. I’m neither a Tesla fanboy nor a Tesla hater. And I couldn’t care less whether what we saw technically qualifies as a flying car. Three takeaways: (1) The risk of that live demonstration going horribly wrong was real. Almost no CEO would willingly expose their company to that kind of public humiliation for a product with so little financial upside. Elon did. (2) That willingness to attempt the seemingly impossible is what makes Tesla special. It’s also arguably Elon’s greatest contribution to America. He’s helped bring back something we’ve lost. The American spirit of chasing big scary ideas that most people think are impossible. That mindset is spreading across a new generation of founders and its long term impact on America’s future could dwarf anything Tesla ever sells. I think this is deeply underappreciated. (3) Can we just acknowledge how insanely cool that moment was? We’ve reached a strange place culturally where even extraordinary feats of human ingenuity immediately become arguments about why they don’t count. Not everything needs to be a debate. Sometimes we should just be able to stand back together and marvel at what humans are capable of. I’ve been both bullish and critical of Tesla’s ambitions over the years. But watching Elon and his team push the boundaries of what’s possible reminds me why I’m glad we have him. Whether the Roadster ever makes Tesla a dollar or impacts $TSLA stock price is almost beside the point. We need more people willing to risk failure in pursuit of things the rest of us think are impossible. Because when they succeed we all win.

You have no choice but to save the United States. There is literally nowhere left to go. This is it. The last bastion. The Alamo. Last stop Saloon. If the US completely falls, it's checkmate Earth. There's nowhere to run, nowhere to hide, you can't opt out. There is no Shire.

I keep getting sticker shock when we pick up Taco Bell takeout and it’s $30 for the family…for bean burritos. I’m old enough to remember this longstanding value menu: 59/79/99 cents!

Just had another request for a "letter of medical necessity" land on my desk. That's where the insurance company, which already has every medical record it needs, creates up to an hour of work for me. I get to explain my reasoning for treatment using the same paperwork I already sent them. In the letter, I explain that their cherry-picked rationales are population-based and don't apply to every patient. I explain that they, the insurance company, don't have a license to practice medicine, and their sellout doctors don't have a license to practice in my state. Their protocols were meant to get us to a peer-to-peer, not to dictate medical care. They were asked to hold their subscribers' money in case they needed it, and that money is, in fact, not theirs. And I note that I understand the only reason for this unpaid, unfunded waste of time is to discourage me from writing the letter at all. If a lawyer wrote the masterpiece I produce, it would be billed out at thousands of dollars. Mine isn't paid at all. It costs me time with patients, who are already backed up because the new CMS rules make me see them twice for the same problem. And it costs me time with my family. whew.....

Crazy misinformation all over the internet. 25-modifier allows me to actually spend time beyond the immediate procedure addressing various patient concerns. Example-cystoscopy for a bladder lesion or BPH issues, yet patients will want to stay and talk about ED, kidney stones, or unrelated issues. I’ll discuss in the procedure room, or often put them in an exam room and have a whole separate visit post procedure for several other issues. Many patients have a hard time with transport or come from a fair distance away. I will often do no charge tests (ie uroflow) to save them a separate trip in trying to provide efficient, better care. This initiative completely torpedoes what many of us are trying to do in saving unnecessary visits. Claiming this is ā€œdouble billingā€ is one of the dumbest things I’ve seen on this app. The govt reimbursements for procedures or visits are so bad anyway that you can’t pay overhead from them, and this makes it even worse šŸ˜µā€šŸ’«šŸ™„
Why do I feel like this meeting is not going to be good for doctors? Almost like an order came down from somewhere to destroy any remanent of private practices. First the coordinated Psy Op trying to convince the public doctors have been ā€œdouble billingā€ for overlapping services and now getting together to address ā€œrising costs tied to out of network payment disputesā€.

We live in a world where liberals scold @elonmusk for not redistributing his wealth. Then the Dell’s kindly redistribute BILLIONS of dollars to American children and they are mocked for the way they look. You will NEVER make a liberal happy. Sour MF’s one and all.

With 72 percent of Americans overweight or obese and 1-10 Americans still smoking, I think disruption circadian rhythms for part of the year is low on the priority list of what most Americans need to focus on. Extra daylight hours to get outside and exercise later in the day would serve people's overall health better. It certainly is important for children to have more daylight to play after school for their mental and physical wellbeing as well! And I'd rather my teenager not drive home after sports in the dark.
No one likes changing the clock, me included, but Congress has enacted permanent Daylight Savings Time multiple times before and repealed it each time once Americans experienced absurdly late sunrises in the winter. Arkansans don’t want their kids going to school in the pitch dark, and I’ll always put Arkansas first.

When government controls your healthcare money, doctors answer to government, but when you control it, doctors answer to you.
Dear free market people: In one sentence, explain how free markets can fix our fatal healthcare system so that an average voter can, a) understand, and b) actually believe you. (This ought to be good šŸ˜…).

Took my dad to a medical test this morning and the facility we went to sends you a QR code that you then scan at a kiosk to do your check-in. They literally had one live person if you didn't use the QR Code system and the line was 30 people deep. My 86-year-old dad uses a flip phone so if I wasn't with him he would have had to wait in that line. And I would say the average age of the person in that line was 80 plus. So we're making all the people with walkers and canes stand in line for an hour to check in. I'm all for embracing technology but this is ridiculous.

Doctors in my practice must now cover about $800,000 apiece in overhead on average before taking home a nickel. Physician payments will be cut again January 1 as expenses balloon with inflation and compliance. Unsustainable.

The irony of having ā€œAmericanā€ in their title while lobbying for foreign labor to protect corporate hospital margins. 😬🤢 By ignoring the administrative & reimbursement burdens crushing US physicians, the AMA is turning its back on both its own profession & American patients.
An important issue that could have real repercussions in healthcare: A $103,000 visa fee could have a very real impact on whether some communities can access quality care from a doctor. That’s why the AMA is urging the Administration to exempt physicians from the proposed H-1B fee.

I lived in Canada for nearly a decade. Up there they have a practice called ā€œhallway medicineā€ where they park beds and treat people in hallways because there are no rooms available. One of my best friends was rushed to the ER with the worst headache of her life — and she had a history of brain cancer. They made her wait (which can take hours in a Canadian ER). Eventually she slumped over and died of an aneurism at the age of 25. I was once waiting with my wife to be seen for a staph infection on her face. About six hours in of waiting in the ER waiting room (and being harassed several times by a drunk homeless woman for cigarettes) a large man comes in bleeding from his abdomen. They made him sit and wait to be triaged with a growing puddle of blood on the floor in front of him. After about a half an hour he begged to be seen and showed them that he was bleeding and they got annoyed with him and told him to go sit back down and wait. We waited about 10 hours and then decided to go home. My mother-in-law waited for nearly an entire year to have her neurostimulator that is literally wired into her spine replaced. She was bumped three times — one time she was literally ON THE OPERATING TABLE when she got rescheduled. Yet you won’t hear complaints from Canadians about their healthcare system because it’s an unspoken taboo — but when every 1 in 20 Canadians is being killed by their government intentionally, it’s becoming hard to ignore.
Socialized medicine kills Always has Always will

Whatever else you want say about Trump, he represents a level of creativity in resistance that the Republican Party has never known before. He refuses to submit to the kind of conventional defeat that the GOP would have accepted as a matter of course in the past. Sure he has taken some actions I don’t agree with, but he fights with the vigor of the Democrats, and this is a spirit of resistance that is inspirational and that the party should embrace as its model going forward.

Physicians are not allowed to own new hospitals. Meanwhile healthcare is un affordable because there’s so much money in it and everyone is extracting value from the patient’s dollar. Do we realize how insane this is?
