1️⃣ What is Impermanent Loss?
• It happens when the price ratio of the tokens you deposited into an automated market maker (AMM) pool changes, so at withdrawal your assets may be worth less than if you had just HODLed them.
2️⃣ Why the Ratio Matters:
• AMMs price assets by the token ratio in the pool, so the bigger the price change in either direction, the larger the potential loss (around 5.7% for a 2x move, before fees).
3️⃣ Why LPs Still Participate:
• Trading fees can partly or even fully offset the loss, and stablecoin pairs tend to carry lower risk.
⚠️ Risk Note:
The loss becomes permanent once you withdraw at a changed ratio, and even stablecoins can depeg.

⛏️ CRYPTO BASICS #16 — Proof of Work vs. Proof of Stake
How do blockchains verify transactions and keep the network secure without relying on a central authority?
Two major mechanisms help make this possible: Proof of Work (PoW) and Proof of Stake (PoS). 👇
⛏️ Proof of Work (PoW)
PoW relies on computational power.
Miners use specialized hardware to compete to solve cryptographic puzzles. The winning miner can add a valid block to the blockchain and earn rewards.
🔹 Requires computing power and electricity.
🔹 Makes attacks costly because they require significant computational resources.
🔹 Used by Bitcoin.
🔒 Proof of Stake (PoS)
PoS works differently. Participants called validators stake cryptocurrency to help secure the network and participate in validating blocks.
🔹 Validators are selected according to the protocol’s rules.
🔹 Misbehavior can lead to penalties, including losing some staked funds.
🔹 Generally consumes much less energy than PoW.
🔹 Used by Ethereum.
⚖️ What’s the main difference?
PoW uses computational work to secure the network, while PoS uses staked assets and protocol-based incentives and penalties.
Neither mechanism makes a blockchain automatically risk-free. Each has different security assumptions, trade-offs, and potential vulnerabilities.
💡 The key takeaway:
PoW and PoS aim to solve the same fundamental problem: helping a decentralized network agree on valid transactions without a central authority.
They simply take different approaches to achieving that goal.
Understanding this difference gives you a better foundation for understanding how cryptocurrencies actually work.
