My 10 wishes for your 11th year:
Privacy by default, not by effort.
🔻A wallet your grandmother can use without learning the word "shielded."
🔻Keep breaking loudly and fixing fast.
🔻One clear roadmap across every team building you.
🔻Selective disclosure as a real product: "prove my income" or "prove I paid" in one tap.
🔻Meet regulators halfway with viewing keys, without ever making surveillance the default.
🔻Make ETF-era money fund tools people actually use, not just tickers.
🔻Keep the community door open: ambassadors, grants, meetups, contests like this one.
🔻Assume the next bug exists and go find it first.
🔻Stay a little stubborn. The best ideas look unreasonable for ten years.
Happy 10th, Zcash. You didn't just survive a decade. You made privacy sound normal again.

Let me say why this matters beyond charts.
A shop owner whose suppliers and margins are readable by every competitor. A family receiving support from abroad who become a target the moment the amount is public.
A writer, a donor, a patient, a worker whose paycheck and purchases get assembled into a profile. None of them are hiding a crime. They're protecting facts that were never meant to be public.
Cash never made you justify yourself. A permanent public record of your entire financial life isn't "transparency."
It's a tracking device you carry voluntarily.
And the answer was never "no privacy, trust the platform."
It was your own design: private by default for the person, provable when they choose.
Viewing keys aren't a loophole. They're a consent form written in mathematics.
Then the world finally looked up.
In October 2025, investor Naval Ravikant called Zcash "insurance against Bitcoin" and attention followed.
On August 25, 2026, Grayscale's ZCSH began trading on NYSE Arca, the first US ETF offering direct exposure to ZEC. Grayscale tied the pitch to privacy in an age of AI and digital monitoring, and said revenue from the fund's fee would flow back into the Zcash ecosystem.
I'm genuinely happy about it. But here's my birthday warning: a ticker is not a mission. Wall Street can buy your price.
Only people can use your privacy. If the ETF becomes the headline and the shielded pool stays the footnote, we'll have won the chart and lost the point.
Your idea didn't age. The threat did. Surveillance got cheaper, faster and smarter this decade, and you were already built for it.
May 2026 was your hardest week, and I want to honour it instead of skipping it.
On May 29, Shielded Labs researcher Taylor Hornby, using AI-assisted tooling, found a soundness flaw in Orchard's proof circuit, live since 2022. In theory it could have let an attacker mint counterfeit ZEC inside the shielded pool.
For a private coin that's the nightmare: you can't audit what you can't see. The price fell hard.
What you did next is why I'm proud. Responsible disclosure. A coordinated emergency upgrade within days.
Then on July 28, Ironwood (NU6.3) went live at block 3,428,143: a new, formally verified pool, plus a turnstile so only as much ZEC can leave the old pool as ever went in. Developers report no evidence the flaw was exploited or that supply changed.
Mature systems aren't the ones that never break. They break loudly, fix fast, and leave behind a mechanism anyone can check.
Now the part where a friend tells you the truth.
For years you owned arguably the best privacy technology in crypto, and most of your coins still moved in the open. Wallets were rough. Shielded felt like an advanced setting, not a normal one.
Privacy that few people use isn't protection, it's a museum exhibit.
The good news is that this is changing. Shielded supply has climbed from around 8% in 2024 to roughly a quarter to a third of ZEC in 2026, depending on the tracker. But even "a third" means two-thirds still sits in the open.
The next decade's job isn't inventing more privacy. It's making privacy default, effortless and boring.
Second note, with love: your development now lives across several organisations (ZODL, Shielded Labs, the Zcash Foundation, Project Tachyon, Valar Group and more).
Plural is healthy. But plural needs a shared roadmap and a language a newcomer can follow, or a decentralised family becomes a group chat nobody can read.
You didn't grow up in a quiet neighbourhood.
Early on, shielded transactions were heavy: slow to build and hungry for memory.
Then Sapling (2018) made them something a phone could realistically handle. In 2022, Orchard, built on Halo 2, removed the need for a trusted setup, the thing critics had pointed at since day one. Every upgrade was a quiet "okay, fixed that."
Meanwhile, some exchanges and regulators treated you as suspect for the crime of making privacy the default setting of… cash. Nobody asks a $20 bill to justify itself at the till.
You learned to stand up straight in front of people who hadn't read your whitepaper.
That alone deserves a candle on the cake.
You were born on October 28, 2016, and your first trick sounded like a magic act: prove a payment is valid without revealing who paid whom or how much.
That's the zk-SNARK, a proof that says "the maths checks out" and nothing else. Not "trust us." Cryptography doing the job a bank's discretion used to do, except nobody has to take anyone's word for it.
Then you did something braver than hiding everything: you gave people a choice. Transparent addresses when openness is the point. Shielded when it isn't.
And viewing keys, so you can open the envelope for an auditor, an accountant or a family member without opening it to the entire planet.
The internet framed it as privacy versus accountability. You quietly answered: why not both? Fixed 21 million supply, proof-of-work, disclosure by consent. A decade later, that pitch still holds.
The takeaway:
A trustworthy project is easy to verify: a fixed supply, vesting you can check, no paid hype, no forced selling.
WFC claims all of it and invites you to test it.
Honest caveats: it's still early, its roadmap is still unfolding, and structure alone isn't a guarantee.
Watch liquidity and what the team delivers over time, and never risk more than you can lose.
