“How might we square the fact that they have lost a degree of mental capacity now, that they have left instructions when they were younger to end their life when this happens, with the fact that they are perhaps the most content they have been in their whole life?” he asks."

A long shot...Last Wednesday, I left a small grey hardshell suitcase on a train from London St Pancras to Cambridge between 5-6pm
The thing in it I'm most upset about losing is a five-year journal in which I've recorded moments with my daughter (now 7) that have made me laugh or smile, and how she's changed. I like to read them back to her so she knows how precious she is.
Nothing has turned up through the train companies' lost property systems yet, and I know that may take a while, but I don't want to leave a stone unturned. Any bright ideas? Know this is a long shot. @TLRailUK @GNRailUK

Not correct: rates down in mental health patients, older people, London, doctors, certain suicide methods, etc.

The new figures also show a persistent wide difference between English regions, with the NE having the highest rate & London the lowest.
For any Govt concerned about regional disadvantage, mental health is a good place to start.

I’m almost 70, and people believe it all too easily.
Here are my secrets for ageing like a used tea bag:
1. Skin: find a good pub and visit regularly. Sun, wind, cigar smoke, the occasional fist, whatever it takes. Just give them your credit card.
2. Body: eat more, work out never, get fat. Even with that, use PEDs: port, eggs and digestives.
3. Hair: let it go wherever it likes. Off the top, into the ears, out of the nose.
4. Stress: seek it out, especially financial stress.
And - of course - never ever brush your teeth.
i’m almost 40, but people don’t seem to believe me. besides my asian genes, here are my secrets to stay looking young:
1. skin: find a good dermatologist and visit regularly. thermage, ultherapy, lasers, whatever it takes. just give them your credit card.
2. body: eat less, work out more, don’t get fat. even with that, use PEDs. ozempic exists for a reason.
3. hair: keep it thick and full. PRP if your hair starts thinning, and take turkish hairline if it’s too late. balding is optional.
4. stress: avoid it, especially financial stress. so make more money. btw, money is also the key ingredient for item 1, 2 and 3.
hope this helps. 😉
Do any of my Twitter contacts work for or have connections with MEPs (any country) in European Parliament? It is for an access to palliative care project. Thanks.

Happy National Allied Health Professions Day

One of the more disturbing posts I’ve seen lately. The idea and specificity of euthanizing someone despite their “delirious protests” is nauseating. I simply cannot believe someone would promote this idea. The law hasn’t even passed yet.

Farewell & thank you Margaret Hamilton. Was a joy to interview her for #13MinutestotheMoon back in 2018. A software engineer for NASA’s Project Apollo, among the first of her kind & pioneer in truest sense who pushed the boundaries of possibility in space and on Earth. Ad Astra.

Future Care Planning should be replacing ACP, and as quickly as possible: my reason being that FCP explicitly can occur while the patient lacks mental capacity, and most descriptions of ACP explicitly require a capacitous patient [and ignore what should happen during incapacity].
A privilege talking about Future Care Planning at 23rd National Welsh Palliative Care Conference at Aberystwyth University. Big uptake in use of e-FCP upload function on Welsh Clinical Portal since launch this year
