This is what the most recent Global Burden of Disease data say for the UK (purple all causes; green is chronic (non-communicable) disease)) @MartinW93129709 :
The authority of this particular critique of growth doesn't rest on abstract cultural privilege but on @PresidentIRL's own struggle against poverty in post-war County Clare and his longstanding political opposition to oppression, violence and injustice over many decades 7/8
And this #crypower podcast with @Hozier portrays a man, not adrift from his times as some would claim, but deeply and passionately committed to social change and to improving the prospects for future generations. 6/8

His speech critiquing our obsession with #economicgrowth and our persistent neglect of #socialjustice, #community, #ecology and #solidarity with each other and other species bore all the hallmarks of a consisently inspiring leader 2/8

It was an absolute privilege to visit Áras an Uachtaráin last week and meet with #MichaelDHiggins @PresidentIRL on the occasion of the 20th birthday celebration of @TASCblog - the Thinktank for Action on Social Change. 1/8
Delighted to announce the Danish edition of Post Growth. Verden Efter Væksten was published yesterday by Forlaget @Hovedland. hovedland.dk/bog/verden_efte…
Absolutely wouldn't quibble with @KevinClimate's 'fair' UK budget. #zerocarbonsooner makes clear that the 2.4Gt is a conservative estimate. I also calculate a lower value of 0.8 Gt (see Footnote 11) on stronger assumptions. Kevin's estimate definitely in range.
there are other ideas of fairness and whilst @KevinClimate uses the same 320Gt global budget his calculation of fairness gives the UK 1-1.5Gt of budget 2/2 xitter.cf/CEEbill_NOW/status/145…
On consumption (footprint) basis, the target should be even sooner. Immediate cuts in the region of 75-140 MtCO2 (several times those seen during lockdown) are needed to put us back on track. 3/3
