Every time I see someone integrate social into their app — eg @RobinhoodCrypto, now @opensea — I get even more frustrated at how @base blew their first mover advantage. Social was correct. The focus on creator & content coins was wrong.
Oh what could have been @jessepollak — when you wrote this it really frustrated me. And I literally said on @gmfarcaster that we’d see Robinhood and others adding social soon. And they did just a couple months later. Your thinking was right; your execution was wrong. Oh well.
People want to see what others are trading, predicting, etc. @interfacedapp (rip) was one of the first to do it well, powered by the Farcaster social graph. Then FOMO (also tapping into FC). So unfortunate Base App couldn’t make this work with Farcaster under the hood. Would love to see what that timeline would’ve looked like.
When @jacek0x was on @gmfarcaster a couple weeks ago, we chatted about what’s next and he mentioned possibly returning Degen to a solopreneur project. The end of the interview where we are just chatting was my favorite part. This link should take you right to it.

On Monday I let our dev team go. It was a tough call.
First, the important part: Tomasz (@ts_tomek) and Marcin (@mlad17_) are fantastic engineers. Tomasz on frontend, Marcin on backend. They did incredible work on POV and I'm grateful for everything they put in. This isn't about them.

Now the why.
DEGEN doesn't have a product ready to scale yet. We're still searching for product market fit, and at this stage speed matters more than headcount. You build a team when you've found something that works and need to pour fuel on it. We're not there.
Then there's runway. It's a bear market and I plan ahead. My rule: DEGEN always has at least 2 years of runway. This keeps us well covered. We're in a good spot. This is discipline, not trouble.
So I'm going back to how DEGEN started. Me, in my room, building and iterating at supersonic speed. After launch I got bogged down in process. I've cut almost all of it. I'm in the office every day, coding again, and with AI tools, how fast one person can ship is wild.
What I'm building: yeetr.fun
I've been trading options since I was 16. At Credit Suisse I took every derivatives class they offered the traders. I love options, I love WallStreetBets, I love the trenches. This is the product I was meant to build.
Options are one of the best financial instruments out there, but most people never touch them. Too complex for retail, and real options markets need deep liquidity so market makers can hedge. That's why almost nothing outside BTC and ETH has them.
Yeetr is my answer. Think Uniswap for options. No order book, no market maker, all onchain. You earn on your bag and hedge some short term risk, which gives people a reason to hold a token instead of pumping and dumping it.
DEGEN is still a top token on Base with a great community. But community and brand aren't enough. I want to build something that brings value back to holders. If Yeetr takes off, holders win. My biggest bag is DEGEN.
Smaller team, one builder, more shipping. You'll see it on the timeline and in the app.

Latest post: Who is Satoshi? an exercise in critical thinking for my students
Last week, my Blockchain for Entrepreneurs class started back up; a 8 week introduction to all the things starting with Bitcoin. I created this course in the Fall of 2021 and it launched as a special topics course at FGCU's School of Entrepreneurship in January of 2022. Since leaving my full time position in 2024, I've kept teaching this course as I didn't want to see it die.
No two semesters have been the same. I've said many times that a student could have taken this class every semester I've taught it and still learned something new each time. The only module that has remained somewhat constant has been Week 1: Bitcoin.
After watching an interview with the documentarians of Finding Satoshi, the latest exploration on the mystery, I decided to add a new assignment for week 1: Who is Satoshi.

There are thousands of daily word apps and social media accounts out there
But I haven’t seen any others that make learning the word playful and interactive through social media
I built @word_a_day_game to live at the intersection of learning and social media. You don’t just passively learn a new word each day, you have to use it on social media to reinforce your learning.
The original inspiration was helping my daughter study for the SATs. We were road tripping in Canada with a big box of index cards with vocabulary words on them. I noticed that as she learned new words, we would all naturally try to weave them into conversation throughout the day, which made the learning feel fun and stickier.
